Being a SAHM can be monotonous and I feel guilty about it

I'm feeling pretty bored and lonely lately and I feel guilty for feeling this way.  I always dreamed of being a SAHM.  I love staying home with my Babies and I don't really think that I would want to work full time, but it gets lonely when you don't have any adult interaction for most of the day.  I was thinking that I could maybe get a job during the evening, but evenings are the best time of day since DH is home and we are all together as a family.  I am trying to figure out what I'm going to do when winter comes.  Right now we can at least get out for walks most of the days.  I'm not trying to be whiny - I love my life and wouldn't trade it for the world.  Like I said, I guess I'm just feeling kind of lonely lately.

Anyone else ever feel this way?

  • Join a moms club! Best thing I ever did :) I was starting to really feel like a hermit, and actually getting nervous about getting out of the house, and then I joined the local MOMS club and now I feel like I have quite a few friends. We have playgroup once a week, plus other scheduled activities during the week, and a moms outing in the evening twice a month. It really has been great. Now I feel like I'm going nutty if I don't get out of the house a few times a week to see other adults!

This is a great idea!  I can't believe that I didn't think of it sooner!  I just did a google search and sent out an email to inquire about one in my area.  Thanks!  :)

No prob! DD loves getting to go visit her friends every week, and I really feel like I've connected with a few ladies. I love mom's night out (especially the movie ones!) and book club :) For $25/year, you can't go wrong...I'm actually now the co-president of my group (though I'll admit, I was drafted ;-)).

This!  Definitely!  You need to keep a sense of yourself, even if you're dedicating most of your day to your child(ren).

My moms group meets every Friday morning, so there's always that to look forward to.  But whenever we're going some place fun, we always invite our friends.  Its a great way for Jacob to play with friends his age and for me to have some friends too!  :)

  • Give it a little time.  Your babies are still so little, and they aren't exactly the best of conversationalist right now ;-)

I promise you, as they get older and  start communicating a little better, things will improve.  Caroline is a HOOT now...she is talking up a storm and she keeps me laughing a lot of the day.

I agree that joining a Mom's group is a good idea.  I'd also look into MDO or a day school for the babies.  You need a little alone time too ;)

  • Dana is right.  It is about to get so good.  Once they can buddy around with you and you can talk to them and play goofy stuff with them and go out in the world and do fun things, it gets so much better.
