Are bella bands worth the $$?

Or is it better to hold off and just buy maternity jeans and pants when I'm ready for them?  I'm currently still wearing my prepregnancy work pants (not sure for how much longer) and I had to move up one size in my jeans (they're a little baggy but much more comfy than the one size smaller I always wore before pregnancy).

Re: Are bella bands worth the $$?

  • I loved my bella band and wish I would have gotton it sooner than I did.

  • I think so...I have also found them helpful in holding up my maternity pants from falling down...kind of like a "maternity belt" HTH
  • Personally I much prefer my mat pants to the bella band. ?I can only really use it w/two of my pants and it rolls and doesn't stay in place well for me. ?I bought my first mat jeans at like 10 weeks and am still in them.
  • Unless you have an old tube top laying around!  They work just the same and you'd be surprised what you have in summer clothes..ha

  • For me, the bella band was always riding up.  It also felt a little too tight around my stomach. Maternity pants are so much more comfortable, and since you have to buy them essentially anyway, I'd recommend just getting maternity pants and skipping the bella band.
  • I waited until 23 weeks to buy mine and I wish I'd gotten it much sooner!  It lets you wear your old clothes longer (as long as your butt doesn't grow too much!) and it holds up maternity pants.  I still have to wear mine with a lot of pants.
  • It was worth it for me! Allowed me to have some options in work clothes without having to buy a ton of maternity stuff right away. That was good, b/c I ended up growing out of the maternity clothes I bought early on. I went from a maternity 6 or 8 to a 10, and from small/med tops to large or XL!

  • I really liked my bella band.  I used it mainly from week 12 when my regular pants didn't fit anymore until 18-20 weeks when I moved into maternity pants.  I'll still wear it sometimes with my maternity pants to hold them up or smooth everything out.  I have some friends who are later in their 3rd tri and are wearing it again when maternity shirts are getting shorter.  Maternity pants are definitely easier and more comfy than the bella band, but I had quite a few weeks when I was in between regular and maternity pants.

I think the biggest factor in liking my band was that it fit really well.  I used the bella band website to find a store near me and went to try it on before I bought it.  I ended up buying a different size than I thought I needed.  A lot of people talk about their bella band sliding and bunching.  I wonder if this has to do with the way it fits.

  • I LOVED my bella band.  Totally worth the money IMO.
  • Worth it - I wear mine all the time with my regular pants and it helps keep my maternity pants up too, since they are a little big.

I got the Motherhood Maternity one for $18 and it was totally worth it

  • I don't think they're worth the money.  They aren't as comfy as mat. pants.  I had to keep adjusting it.

  • IMHO, don't waste your $$$$  While they do the job, hold up non-maternity pants unbuttoned, those just become uncomfortable.  I'd go straight to maternity pants if I were you.

  • I loved mine although I bought the Motherhood  Mat one which I think was $15.  I wasn't quite big enough to hold up my maternity pants until 20 weeks or so.  Plus, I didn't want to buy summer mat clothes knowing most of my bigger pregnancy would be in cold weather.  I was able to get by with the band until about 23 weeks where I could zip my pants at all.  Then it was too uncomfortable to wear the band.
  • Yes, because you can use them later.  Many maternity clothes have the single band which, I guess, is supposed to be positioned under your belly as it grows.  The problem is that the band therefore sits on your bladder which becomes increasingly uncomfortable.  So, you can take your pants to an alterations place and have them cut out the small band and sew in the belly band.  It is great.  There is some new (?) line of clothing which uses this concept, but it is hard to find them.  So, the belly bands help duplicate this style which so comfortable.
  • I didn't like mine and wish I hadn't spent the money on it.  I always felt like it was riding up, or that it was so obvious my pants weren't all the way buttoned.  It just wasn't comfortable for me.

    Now mat pants???  LURVE them.

  • I say yes too. I love mine and have been wearing it since week 10 or so because I was really bloated.

To prevent riding/sliding/bunching, I found a trick that works for me: Put your bella band on, then put your pants on over it, then fold the top down over the top of the pants. So it goes under, then over the top of the pants. Much more comfortable and it doesn't move all over the place!

  • I kept trying to wear mine, but it wasn't working for me.  I ended up going straight to maternity pants as well.

  • I really like mine. I don't need it for my jeans but I do need it for my work dress pants and it saved me last week when I had a meeting for work and NEEDED to wear dress pants that couldn't be buttoned.

  • I never had any problem with mine riding up or not staying in place. I actually had the "Tummy sleeve", I think, not a bella band. It was one-size-fits-all from Destination Maternity (Motherhood, I think).
