How much water is everyone drinking?

So I know I don't drink as much as I should. I really can't stand water, and everyone says use crystal light but I hate that too. Today I drank at least 8 16 oz glasses and I still feel like I am dry and haven't peed a whole lot. My lips are chapped and cracked and my stomach feels like it's going to burst, but I am still thirsty. Just curious has anyone heard about drinking too much water? Is 128 oz alot or should it be sufficient and catch up with me?

  • Close to 150 oz per day.

  • I would think that if you typically don't get the amount of water you should that one day of drinking plenty is not going to make you feel better.  I would suggest drinking a lot of water over the next couple of days and see if you feel more hydrated.

Have you tried the mio stuff you squirt in your water (not sure if it is artificially sweetened or not)? Or maybe some gatorade or even pedialyte to help get you rehydrated? Perhaps even making some sweet/unsweet tea.  I suggest some of these in between glasses of water.  Perhaps it wouldnt be so dreadful!  My husband is not a water drinker (I always have been) and I think it is so strange!  Smile

    Good luck!

  • I can't drink sugar drinks due to GD, so no gatorade. I think Mio has aspartame in it . Like I was saying it's really hard not being a water person and trying to stick only to water. Tea I avoid as well because I read that certain herbs can induce labor. I was loving on this peach tea last year until I read the ingredients. I can't remember what it was but I looked it up and was a no-no. I drink at least 80ish ounces a day but doctor has never really given me an amount that I should be drinking, but I am guessing it's more than that.

  • I just drink as much as I want, but that's a lot.  Not measuring.

Some suggestions to mix things up that work for me: I make a big pitcher of decaf sun tea and keep it in my fridge (Louisianne has a good decaf tea that comes in big bags).  I mix club soda or sparkling water with juice.  Add ice to your water, it'll make it more refreshing and use a straw.  Eat fresh fruit, it will hydrate you even better than water and has fiber.

  • You are supposed to drink your body weight in Oz. of water. So if you weigh 160lbs you should drink 160oz of water. If you feel dehydrated or eat salty food then you need to get more in. I add a splash of juice to mine and tons of ice and that helps me get more water in. Its hard to get the recommended amount in but if you keep a glass or bottle with you all the time it gets easier!

  • I drink at least 10 8-oz glasses a day. Usually more though. You may want to try getting yourself a pitcher to keep in the fridge. Put a few thin orange and lemon slices in there, so it has a little flavor to it when you pour a glass.

I was drinking liquids in the beginning of my pregnancy and thought that would replace some of the water intake.  NOTHING but water replaces water (seltzer or sparkling water is good too).  You can not add artifical sweetners or drink tea in replacement.  (Most drs. don't recommend sweetners unless you have GD and tea dehydrates you, even decaf tea has caffiene in small amounts)  While gatorade is fine, it is full of sugar and should be used as a suppliment.  I am only posting this because I went through this way back in my first trimester with drinking water and was educated by my doctor about it all.....

Now I drink between 120ozs and 150 ozs of water and then I have the occasional glass of iced tea or lemonade.....

  • I know GD generally makes you extra thirsty. I haven't been keeping track of how much I drink but i generally never get to a point where i feel satisfied, even when I've drank an uncomfortable amount. For some reason chewing ice helps.

Fortunately we will not have GD forever.

  • I'm drinking at least 100+ ounces of water everyday.  Plus I'm really craving milk and probably having 4 16 oz servings a day (2 with breakfast and 2 with dinner).

YES! I chew TONS of ice. They say that can also be a sign of low iron, but I do have anemia as well so there you go. I love chewing ice. I don't drink a glass of water without ice, luke warm water makes me ill, and then I eat the ice. We go through at least 20 lbs of ice a week I swear.

I don't count, but tons?  I drink half a gallon just during my workout and I drink water all day long.  I'm totally with whoever mentioned ice chewing too - I like to wait until it's pretty soft then chew the ice.  I don't have low iron.
  • I don't really measure how much I'm drinking, but I have water with me all day long (so it's a lot). I have found that it's easier for me to drink more when it's cold rather than room temp.
