I'm a painful, leaky mess! WTH?

I gave up nursing about a month ago, and I haven't nursed/pumped since. While I still know that I have a *little* milk there, I haven't been painfully engorged, leaked, etc. Nothing!

Beginning last night and into this morning, I'm a painful leaky mess! I didn't know this could happen! I'm engorged, painful to the touch, and leaking all over the place. I tried to nurse M to relieve some of the pain, but he is way over the whole nursing thing and wouldn't have it.

So weird, though... Did this happen to anyone else?

  • Wow, that's so strange that it happened a month after weaning!  But try to just apply ice packs and NOT nurse or hand express, because that will only make it worse, unfortunately (a lesson I learned the hard way).

Maybe you slept on your breast weirdly?

  • Use Bok Choy or Cabbage Leaves.  It's supposed to work wonders.  Just put a fresh cool leaf every couple of hours in your bra and it will help dry up your milk.  I swear, I'm not playing some kind of weird prank on you.  :p

Yeah, I am dealing with the same thing.  After running last sunday I got SUPER engorged & leaky.  I am starting to wonder just how long I will have to smell like cabbage.  I think my new nickname shall be coleslaw.  Wink

  • Maybe you're ovulating or AF is coming? Hormonal changes could do it.

This is probably obvious, but definitely buy green cabbage not purple.  Purple was cheaper and there was one just the right size, but I know have purple stained bras.  I'm sure you're smarter than I am, but just thought I'd pass along a friendly tip!
