I have an awful sore throat. I dont have any other typical cold symptoms so I am afraid it may be strep. Going to the doctor when they open this am.
If it is strep, I will have to take antibiotics. Can I do that while nursing?
Also...should I have LO tested? he does not have a fever, but I have noticed he hasnt been eating well the past two days.
Re: Have you had strep throat after having LO?
I had a weird bad throat when K was about 2 months old and it lasted for over a week so I finally went in. It wasn't strep. After about another week it developed into a horrible cough so I went back in and had developed bronchitis. They gave me an antibiotic and it was fine to take while nursing K. I didn't have any trouble with it. Good luck to you!!!
PS if you are strep positive, I would have LO tested...if you're not, I'd just figure he's fine also. Good luck!

I had strep when LO was only about a month old. I was still BF at the time and my doctor gave me an antibiotic that was safe to take when BFing. I was worried about LO even though she wasn't showing any symptoms so I took her into the pedi. She did a strep test just to make me feel better but told me that babies don't really get strep until closer to a year old (my doc said that also but I didn't believe her since she isn't a pedi). Sure enough the test came back negative and LO never got it. If LO is acting out of sorts I would have him tested but if he is acting fine and doesn't have a fever I wouldn't.
