Anyone who works for state and has insurance?

Hello Smile

So another one of my questions is:

Who out there works for the State and has their insurance through the State?

We live in Indiana and my husband works for the state. I have reminded him to please ask the ladies around in the office for information on insurance. (Still waiting....ha) Looking up anything online is about a joke and when you call, they are so rude. No

I'd just like to know of any prenatal care is covered and more importantly the birth of a baby at the hospital. The website seems kind of confusing so I'm not sure if anything is covered or if we must "add" it on.

Any insight and experience is really appreciated! Thanks Smile

  • MH works for the state, but not the state you live in.  Like everything else insurance related, the amount of coverage you have is going to depend on your individual carrier.

I can't imagine calling and asking what the coverage for pregnancy/birth would be that hard?

  • I don't live in Indiana, so I don't think I'd be much help, but I understand what you mean by the insurance company being rude when you call.  I spent an hour on the phone with 2 different people trying to figure this whole thing out and what they will cover prenatal and delivery.  One guy was really nice, but the woman I talked when I had more questions was really rude and acted like it was dumb that I was asking questions before I was even pregnant.  It's called "planning ahead."  Neither of them though would even give me a ball park figure.  I did the math with mine from what I could find on the website, what info they gave me, and what other teachers have told me and I estimate our prenatal care and delivery will be between $1000-$3000 depending on potential complications.  You have to consider your deductible, your copay, and what percentage you'll be covering after that.

  • I work for the state of Indiana, it depends on what plan you are on, but I believe prenatal care is covered.  I'm on a HDP so I have to cover my deductible before they will pay for anything.  Then I think it's 80% they cover.  No infertility testing is covered, period.  If you get on the BCBS website you can have them send you a schedule of benefits that will have everything spelled out for you.  If you have any other questions, pm me and I can try to help!
