My SIL, who I love an adore, had a "surprise baby" in the middle of her divorce. She is a wonderful, doting mother and I really am so happy for her, despite also being ragingly jealous. BUT, SIL is leaving her 7 week old baby with MIL this weekend so she can go to an out of town sports tournament. Granted, this is in her line of work and is partially job-related, but it still makes me all sorts of judgey. Who the eff leaves their 7 week old for an entire weekend? I know it's none of my business and has nothing to do with me, but I still find myself having an unnecessarily negative reaction to her choice. Flame away, I know it makes me an old biddy. No flaming from me...I think 7 weeks is definitely too soon unless it's a mandatory work function, like if you don't go you're fired.
Lots of people only get 6 weeks for maternity leave. Is it really that big of a deal she has to go to a work function? The mom probably needs a break FFS.

I agree! Heaven forbid the mom goes back to work.
And for a lot of people, after taking their six week or whatever maternity leave, they may not be in a great position to pick and choose which work related functions they attend.

I'm a SAHM and left DS when he was 6w old to go to an OOS wedding. I was a bridesmaid.
It's a good thing he stayed home, because we stayed at the bride's parents' house and they smoked like chimneys.
I must be a really shiitty mother.
For some reason whenever I open your posts it's about a 50/50 shot as to whether or not I'm going to see the OP.
It just happens to you.
Really odd.
