Toddlers: 24 Months+

Should we start PTing?

So we are expecting a LO any week now.  We currently have a 28 month old boy, who is interested in the potty - he likes to sit on it and pretend to go, tells us he has to go after the fact, wants to wear his big boy pants over his diaper, etc.

I know I shouldn't even think about it but should we start PTing now or wait until the new arrival is older?  I was thinking that it may be a good time to try when my hubby is home for 2 weeks when the new baby arrives or am I just adding too much stress to the mix?

  • I would do it this weekend & get it done.

  • I'd wait.  Especially if you think it is going to take effort to get him pted right away.  I attempted it with my son at about that age and he just wasn't ready.  When he was he told me he was done with diapers one day, and that was it.  I really wish I'd have waited and not fought the battle at all.

  • I'd wait. There are plenty of kids who can be PT'ed at that age, but the likelihood of him being PT'ed before your baby gets here is slim to none. FWIW, I pt'ed DS when my youngest was a few weeks old, and then DD1 when DD2 was 8 months old. PT'ing is much easier when they're ready and when it will only take a couple of days.
