Pregnant after IF

Maternity Clothes??

When did you breakdown and buy maternity clothes? I bought my Be Band last week, but now my "Fat" day clothes are getting a little snug?  Where did you find the best selection? I can only find things that look like tents. (I'm only 5'1")... Indifferent

Thanks Ladies! Big Smile Dustilou!

Re: Maternity Clothes??

  • I was in maternity pants full time between 10-12 wks. I can still wear some regular tops. I am having a hard time finding cute maternity clothes. I have had the best luck at old navy online. They have petite sizes. Target, kohls, and Jc penny have clothes in the store but not a big selection.

  • I'm only 5'1" as well and obviously I'm still too early in my pregnancy to be needing maternity clothes but I did go out looking at them last weekend while I was shopping.  Motherhood Maternity makes a petite size in their pants and whatnot that were great.  Perfect length and SUPER soft and comfy.  They have cute jeans, khaki's, dress pants, etc all in petite.  As far as shirts that  had a lot of great ones from long sleeve tees to tanks to sweaters.  They also had a lot of cute dresses that were a good length and most had ties or an elastic band so they didn't just hang like a tent on you.  I think that is probably where I will buy all of my maternity clothes just because they fit my shortness so well :)  Apparently you can't be petite and pregnant at most stores!

Also, online they have great sales and clearance items!!

  • Most of my regular clothes are pretty fitted - tailored dress pants, fitted knit sweaters, etc. - that I felt the need to get some mat. clothes around 11-12 weeks - mostly pants.

I've had great luck with work pants at The Gap and if you sign up for their emails you get notified all the time that they have 30% and stuff. Dresses from Old Navy are very reasonable, and I've even picked up a couple of shirts from there I'm very happy with. The reason I've bought tops now is because they are drapy and longer than what I typically wear, so they hide the fluff better at this point : )

At this point I have 1 pair jeans, 2 dress pants, 1 dress, 2 short sleeved tops and 1 cardigan.

  • I lived in regular yoga pants and looser until 30 weeks because I just could not bring myself to buy mat clothes, haha! If you wanna go suuuuuper cheap there's always Old Navy. It's not the greatest but they have free shipping and return shipping.

  • I bought a pair of maternity jeans at 15 weeks, but didn't go out and buy some more things till I was about 18 weeks or so.  I could get by with regular shirts and the belly band till then.  Even the jeans were too big in the belly area for me up until about 20 weeks.  It's different for everybody, so I say do what makes you feel the most comfortable! Big Smile

  • I'm having twins, so I may be a little ahead of everyone. I started wearing my one pair of maternity shorts a couple weeks ago about 12/13 weeks. Many of my regular shorts are too tight, but a couple looser pairs still fit... however not much longer I think. I just went shopping today (see a few posts below). I've had good luck getting stuff at JCPenney and Motherhood Maternity on clearance/sale. I normally love Old Navy, but have looked in there twice and nothing was on sale, so even though it was cheaper than reg prices at the other stores, it was more expensive overall since not on sale. I did end up getting a pair of Old Navy shorts at a consignment shop near me that were cheaper and still in great shape. If you have any consignment shops nearby, items may be hit or miss, but worth checking out.

As far as shirts, many of my regular shirts are not tight fitting and they still fit fine. I think I'll be able to wear them for awhile yet.

Since I'm no longer working, I'm fortunate I don't need suits and dress clothes, so I'm keeping it pretty casual at home which helps.

    Good luck!

  • I survived on the belly band until about 18 weeks until I stood in front of my closet every morning with blank stares. I went to one of the Once Upon a Time consignment shops and got a bunch of great deals and it was nice because I could try on all different brands since I'm a little taller than average.  I'm sure it would be the same benefit being a little shorter.

I'm still wearing a lot of regular shirts still, but have been working in some maternity shirts.  A lot of them look like tents though. I guess many are made for ladies that are 30+ weeks along.

  • I'm 5'3 and it seems like tops from the Gap run so long on me..in your case you might have to get them hemmed some.  Stuff from Motherhood and JCP fit better.

  • I've had the best luck with Old Navy and have a few things from Kohl's.  I got my jeans and capris from my MIL's neighbor... I think some were from Motherhood Maternity, but not sure about everything.
