I do all my own housework and DH and i both work full time (40+ hours per week).
We do it a little bit each day.
During the week, we get home and cook dinner (i cook he entertains DD). After we eat, we have play time and bedtime routine for DD. Once she's in bed one of us does the dishes while the other does a chore. Our week might look something like this:
Monday: I cook, he entertains, he does dishes after DD's in bed, I sweep and mop the floors (realistically only takes 30 or so minutes to sweep/mop the kitchen, living room, sunroom and two bathrooms)
Tuesday: I cook, he entertains, I do the dishes after DD's in bed, and he vacuums all the rooms except DD's (I get that on the weekends or whenever I can) and throws in a load of laundry.
Wednesday: I cook, he entertains, he does the dishes, I clean the two bathrooms. They are small, and together only take about 30 minutes.
Thursday: I cook, he entertains, I do the dishes, he cleans the living room (puts away mail/magazines/toys/whatever, dusts, straightens blankets/couch cushions, etc.) and throws in another load of laundry.
Friday: I cook, he entertains, he does the dishes, I clean the sunroom (this is the older kid's play room so I always straighten it up right before the weekend so they can find all their toys, do their crafts, whatever, on the weekend).
Saturdays and Sundays: We do anything that NEEDS to be done, mostly it's laundry, changing sheets, cleaing out the fridge. sometimes it's more tidying up.
Our house isn't white-glove SPOTLESS at all times, there might be toys out or magazines on the table for a day or two, but for the most part our house is clean, just lived in. We make a point to try to clean up after ourselves as we go so there isn't much to do.

She comes every week. We super-straighten the night before she comes - the house is too big for her to do everything in one day. We might start having her come twice a week so she can do laundry and not work as hard.
We've had somebody come twice a month since long before we were parents. We tidy up beforehand and they do all the actual cleaning. I couldn't function without it.

This. But since LO is here it's SOOO much harder to straighten up before she comes, that and working 15.5 hour days 3x/week I have no free time!... she's started unloading/loading dishwasher for me!! (and I never asked her to!). She's ultra affordable, which we love. $85/session and we have a 4br/2.5 ba 2800 sq ft house!

Yes, every other week on Fridays and I love it. On the 'off weeks" I pick up downstairs and mop the lower level floors on Thursday night. I also vacuum upstairs over the weekend. Laundry is done as needed (housekeeper doesn't do it). Other than that, we just pick up and maintain. Its such a nice feeling knowing that everything has been scrubbed down within the past two weeks that it doesn't bother me in between.

Yep, we have a lady come every other week. Our new house is bigger, so not sure if we'll need to change it to every week or just longer cleanings. I still organize/declutter, but haven't cleaned a toliet, mopped a floor, etc in 6 yrs and it seriously helps decrease my stress level.
Cleaning lady every 2 weeks. $100 per visit. We keep the house tidy and clean up spills, etc., but don't really worry about any deep cleaning. House is too overwhelming to think about doing it myself.
promised myself I'd retire when I turned gold, and yet here I am
I have a service come about every 3 weeks. We were on a schedule & now just call as needed. In between cleans, I am HORRIBLE about cleaning. I usually just try to keep our house so it can be rodent free - dishes somewhat done at night and counters & table wiped off. I try to vacuum the first floor every Friday night (tonight already!). DH does the sheets & laundry, plus lots of bedtime stuff. I haven't quite figured out how to get the bathrooms cleaned frequently enough though. Being away from home 11 + hrs a day will do this to a person, I guess. Good luck and hope you end up with a situation you like!
We hired a girl to help us with the house and with LO. I work in the morning, so she stays with DS, at noon she prepares meal (while i return home) and in the afternoon she helps me with the cleaning.
I would live in dust and disorder without her!!
