We scheduled my version... flip baby flip!

So my baby is breech. We found out tuesday. Yesterday I had a doctors appointment and she wants me to come in for a version. Thats when they monitor you and the baby and the try to physically flip her from the outside. I hear its not comfortable but if it will give me a chance of a vaginal birth I am all for it. I guess its a 50/50 type of thing.

My doctor said she has only had one end up in a c section that day and that usually they will know in the beginning of it if it will work or not and to continue or stop.

Have any of you had this done? What was is like? I have read it could feel like an indian burn on the outside of your belly or just a ton of pressure..

If it is successful they will send me home and have my labor progress naturally. If it does not work I am pretty sure they will schedule a c section for as far out as possible and I will continue to do pelvic lifts and such and they will check her position at my weekly appointments. As of yesterday I am not dilated so its actually a blessing in disguise.

  • I just had one yesterday.  It all depends on your own personal pain tolerance, but my take was that it would be uncomfortable for anyone to be pushing on your belly, pregnant or not!  I'm definitely a little tighter than normal today, soreness-wise.  My baby didn't even budge- the doctor said she has never seen a baby just NOT move.  She actually started, and then had to regroup, and then go back again (and my doctor is jacked, so I know she was trying as hard as safely possible).  They'll most likely schedule you for a c-sec at 39 weeks, so judging by the looks of your ticker, it's coming up quickly! :)

  • I had this done and it worked. LO flipped right away, it only took about 30 seconds. It was really uncomfortable (lots of pressure) but not very painful. Like your dr said, they will be able to tell if it is going to work or not almost immediately.

Good luck! You might have some cramping afterwards and if you get the baby flipped my dr said that cramping is good because it helps keep the baby head-down.

  • My baby was breech until last Friday when I actually felt him completely flip..it was the strangest sensation...I was told by a lady that her son was breech and she was told by another woman that she laid in a fetal position on her side until it became very uncomfortable and then she immediately laid on her back and she felt her son completely flip and she saw her stomach morph as he was turning...it's worth a try!  I've also heard shine a light on your stomach towards the way you want your baby to face (weird), put an ice pack on the side where your baby is to force him or her to move (how would this work?), go to a chiropractor and have them do whatever they do to help the baby move....i've heard it all when i was concerned about him being breech, even tho i had a few weeks until i should have worried myself...

I actually did a pelvic tilt with an ice pack by her head and a flashlight at my lower abdomen last night. I laid like that for about 40 min. I didnt feel her move.

When you were talking about the fetal position what side do you lay on? I feel like if I lay on my left she wont move because its like cradling her that way. I need to lay on my right more but it worries me because docs always say to lay on your left.

I hope and pray that the version works on sunday!

  • Uggh I am in the same boat. This lil bugger decided to become breech just last week! It has been head down since 20 wks. I have a follow up u/s next week to check fluid, size and location. Then to discuss a version. Of course, my dr wont do a version past 37wks. Which puts me in a bit of a pickle since I will be on vacation during that week. I am hoping I can talk one of the other drs into doing it at 37wk 2 days. But I will keep doing my pelvic tilts and heating pad. It seems to move alot with the heat. I am really afraid I am on the road to csection. I really really do not want one. Funny part, I delivered my first 2 vaginally and they were 9lbs. Then #3 is turning out to be a normal small size and I might not get to deliver it the regular route. I wonder if it being smaller might be the reason it could flip so easily so late in the game. hmmm

Sorry for the run on, my head is spinning and so are my emotions. But keep us posted on  how it goes.

she didn't say what side she laid on...maybe try both sides...she said she was like that for maybe 10 mins until it started to get uncomfortable for her and then she immediately laid on her back with her legs down
