Upstate NY Babies

::Kristen61707::

I just saw your question in my other post but figured it's pretty far down on the page...

No, I never woke the sleeping baby up to feed. Just like you said, I wanted to see how long the sleeping one could go. The important thing was that they both went to bed at the same time. That way I knew I would get at least 3 hrs a night. Plus, DH "moved" onto the couch (he is not cut out for lack of sleep... me, I can just suck it up) when they were 4 days old so I did all the nights myself and was suuuuuuper overwhelmed feeding both at once. Getting no sleep was easier than listening to 1 scream while I attempted to tandem or heat up the EP bottle and praying the crying didn't wake up Justin.

I was so lucky, they always seemed to wake within a few minutes of each other. As soon as 1 would wake, I would warm both bottles. I like the assembly line approach, I was like a sleepy robot; fed B, burped B, Changed B, Swaddled B and then did the same with N. In the beginning it took almost an hour for the "process" but once I decided to EP, I got it down to about 25 minutes and then would pump for 10. By 5 weeks B would sleep 6-7 hours at a time and Nat would sleep 6.

Life gets SO much better once they start sleeping long stretches I swear. Mine are only 4 months old and I barely remember all those mornings feeding babies and watching the sun come up.

  • oh my gosh, how did you get them to sleep that long at 5 weeks?! What the heck am I doing wrong?! The girls are 4 weeks and get up ever 3 hours ON THE NOSE. Well, last weekend they slept 4 hours but that hasn't happened again. Well, Cate's the one who always wakes up. I've never let Emily go in fear of her waking up as soon as I fall asleep, but maybe I should try it and see how long she goes. How much did you feed them then, do you remember?

    Yeah, I pretty much do the same thing as you in terms of the "assembly line" but I do NOT get everything done in 25 minutes! it takes me a full hour to do everything for both girls and then pump for 15 minutes.They eat really slow!!!!

    I mean, it's fine for now, I get 4) 2 hours stretches so I get my full 8 hours! And I don't have to tip toe around like you do/did because of Justin since I don't have to worry about waking anyone else up. I'd just LOVE to sleep longer than 2 hours once, lol! Oh and my DH is like yours, he sleeps at night. But I don't mind, he works all day.

  • You're not doing anything wrong, lol! I swear we just got so lucky with our kids. I also think b/c all 3 were big babies, they slept easier. At 1 month, B was drinking about 3.5oz a bottle and Nat was drinking almost 5oz, every 3 hrs.  Now B drinks 6 and Nat drinks 7.

    I have a rule that no-one naps in a dark room. I think that way darkness was a major cue that it was time for a lengthy sleep. I was obsessive with the routine. At 11pm I would bring them in our room, dim the lights. Put on the sound machine. They both got as much bottle as they would take- regardless of their last feeding. Then I would swaddle them and lay them down. I know it's a no-no, but we've done the "drowsy but awake" sleep training since the say they were born.

    I don't know how against supplementing you are but lately I've been giving the kids formula before bed. Nat was waking around 4am and I could just tell she was starving. #1- b/c my supply cannot keep up with 13oz every 3 hrs and #2- I swear the ready to feed enfamil is so thick it keeps them satisfied longer. Might be worth a shot if you get too, too sleepy. Now at 4mths they sleep 8:30pm-6:30am.
