Newborn outfits should I plan for? From what I understand, they typically wear one size larger than what they are (3 month baby = 6 month clothes), right? I plan to buy a NB sized outfit for coming home, and then planned on a bunch of soft fleecy sleepers for a while, but didn't know how many of them I should get in NB versus 3 month size? Also, should I plan onesies with pants to go over for her, or should I just plan on the sleep and play outfits with footies? Any help would be appreciated!

thats a good idea for the coming home outfit...I know not to wash many outfits before the baby comes home, in case of size (or you have the opposite of what they tell you!) I was just curious how to try to plan..at least a little! Thanks!
So far I have kept my splurges to 3-6 or 6-9 mo in size. My reasoning is that I'm sure we will be given a lot of cute newborn or 0-3 outfits as gifts. We'll probably end up packing our favorite outfits from each size range for the trip to the hospital, that way we will know that SOMETHING will fit.
As for amount? I honestly have no clue. I would almost rather have too little in the small sizes than too much. I figure we can always run out and buy some more sleepers and onsies. I would hate to have a bunch of clothing laying around that she will never get to wear.
I would suggest these at first since you are really not going to many places, when lo is born and it's easy to change the diaper...
I agree with a pp about 0-3 months being a bit too big for newborns. My son was early so he wore preemie clothes. Even when he gained a little and could technically fit in newborn clothes he was swimming in them.
When you are buying footie pj's and outfits something I didn't think about with my son is their feet have to be able to reach the footie part. I have bought about 6 newborn outfits and 6 newborn pjs. The rest is 0-3 months and up. It's good to have a few newborn outfits but not too many until you see what size baby you have. My brother was very long and only one ounce under 10 pounds. He never fit in newborn clothes! Thankfully my mom didn't buy many and she kept the receipts for the ones she did.
The majority of my kids could wear the newborn size for about a month or longer. Most tags will say up to 11lbs. Keep in mind also how often you want to do laundry. You will usually go through two to three outfits a day. My reasoning is accidents at the changing table or spit up. So if you plan on laundry once a week think about 14 to 21 outfits. Now this includes onesies.
I use both onesies and footed outfits depending on weather. If it is warm the onesies win out with socks or a blanket.
