What's your weight loss plan after baby?

For the women who were overweight before getting pregnant, or for those of you wanting to lose the pregnancy weight.

What are your big plans for weight loss after the baby is born? I know I can't do anything to drastic because I plan on breastfeeding.. but I feel like I need to do something pretty intense to get rid of this weight! I'm making a promise to myself to lose all baby weight + all unnecessary weight I had before!

Just looking for some ideas! :)

Re: What's your weight loss plan after baby?

  • I think having a goal to keep me motivated is the most important thing.

Before I was pregnant, I signed up for a 5k every month because I knew I would have to keep running to stay in shape for the run. Plus, I already paid the enterance fee, so I might as well do it, right? I plan to do that again once LO arrives.

  • I'm going to run. I started a few years ago and kept going until amost 25 weeks then it just got uncomfortable. I am hoping to train for a half marathon in the spring so that will be motivation. At first, lots and lots of walking!! And also eating healthy meals that I prepare at home.

  • start with walking.  walking and more walking.

I hope that some of the weight will come off as my calories decrease.

but I do need to do some kind of core work eventually.  I want my stomach to be almost flat again if possible.

  • We, DH and I are going to do Weight Watchers in January.  I did it before followed the plan and lost almost 30 pounds.  DH just ate what I cooked and the food that was in the house when I did it and he lost around 20 pounds without following the plan.  If that's a possibility you should check it out.

  • DH and I are going to start running together and sign up for a 5k. It'll be something fun to do together and keep us both motivated with the added benefit of helping me lose the baby weight. I've never been extremely active or physical, so I'm really looking forward to the challenge.

  • Thanks for asking this question, I was just pondering this on my way to work this morning. It will be getting cold in Michigan where I am by the time LO arrives and I'm feeling up to any exercise, so I was thinking about trying some kind of video workout. Anyone have any suggestions?

I also plan to do a couch to 5k program.  I've never been a runner but I feel like I should be able to run 2-3 miles with some work.  I plan to start walking immediately and then increasing the amount I run/jog over time.  I also want to do yoga and possibly add in some swimming.  My main goal is to try and do something active for 30 mins everyday, giving myself 6 weeks off to recoup after the birth first.

  • I plan on getting Zumba for my Wii
  • Breastfeeding, eating healthy, and the 30 Day Shred did the trick last time.  Granted, I had a giant motivating factor in my wedding that was taking place 5 months post partum.  Hopefully, I'll be just as motivated this time around.

  • Baby is due at the beginning of October, and where I live the weather is usually pretty mild until mid-November, so until I'm cleared for more strenuous exercise, my plan is to do a LOT of walking around our neighborhood, which is great for that kind of mild exercise - slight elevation changes and quiet streets :)

As the weather gets colder and I don't want to be outside as much, I'm going to go back to working out and eating following the Body for Life plan, which is what I did a few years ago when I lost about 30lbs.  It's not rocket science - alternating HIIT cardio days with weight training, and eating smaller, balanced meals throughout the day with a slight focus on keeping the protein intake higher.  I also really want to try Zumba!

ETA - planning on bf'ing too - hopefully that will help my body kick some of the baby weight naturally!

July 20th, 2012: Never forget the day the fb douchebags tried so hard, but ultimately failed. Viva la October 2011! Yeah, I called you douchebags.

"There will come a time when you believe everything is finished. That will be the beginning.

  • I'm a firefighter so I have to get back in shape pretty quickly.  We have an amazing gym that does semi-personal training for athletes and people who want to get in really good shape.  The programs are priced really fair too.  I am by no means in the shape I was before.  I didn't feel well in the beginning so I quit running and working out and did minimal since.  It is going to be a rough road ahead for me, but I'm kinda looking forward to it.  (She says knowing she has 3 months left of laziness.  :0P )
  • I will be doing my best to EBF, which will certainly help.

Once I'm cleared for exercise, I plan to make the gym my daytime home. My gym offers childcare for 2 hours for $4, so if I go to a class a day, the weight will melt off.

Also, I'll give up ice cream, but I'll sub wine back in here and there!

  • I plan to watch my caloric intake, but I plan to breast feed too, so I am sure I will have to adjust accordingly.  I plan to healthy and gradually get back to my old exercise routine.

    This is a great idea!

I have an elliptical machine at home that I plan to use, and I love love love Jillian Michaels dvd's. And when the weather gets nice I will take LO out for walks and jogs.

  • walking and doing on demand videos.  Similar to what i do now except more intense.  and from experience you have to give yourself time to lose the weight too.  For some reason i always think once i have a baby i'll be back to my old self, no way.  it sucks and it took me a good year to feel good about my body again. i dread losing all the weight again, can you tell?  LOL

    Weight Watchers

This and walking with the baby in the stroller as much as possible. Plus I plan to incorporate a weight routine again. I have heard that breastfeeding really helps with the weight liss and tightening up of our stomach muscles. Plus WW has BF moms add point to their day to make sure that they are getting enough nutrition. My MIL will be here until Feb 19th so once the initial 6 weeks are out of the way, she can watch the baby and I can go to the gym for a hour or so each day.

  • P90x.  It's extreme but I did it before the results were awesome.  I usually stick with my own diet, not the one they recommend.

  • Weight Watchers as well.  And being realistic about walking in the weather in the Midatlantic in late October/November (meaning - I won't go outside because I'm a chickenshit when it comes to the cold), my trusty Leslie Sansone videos will have to do the trick.

    Weight Watchers

Yep!  I did WW a few years ago and loved it.  It was like a game to me, so it kept me interested.  I can only hope they haven't changed it.  Although, I only did it online, because I was an expat in Arabia and there wasn't a WW center anywhere near by.  I hope going to actual meetings is even more encouraging than the online weight-loss graph.

  • Walking as soon as I can after delivery, then back to running as soon as my doctor clears me (I'm still running a little bit and working out frequently).  There is a local half-marathon I run every April, and would like to train for it.  Also breastfeeding and being more calorie-conscious.

  • I plan to start with walking at first - and then go back to teaching Zumba in mid December/January. I figure with the practice I will have to put in prior will help too. Nothing crazy right away - just getting my hip action back in my basement haha.
  • Breastfeeding alone did the trick my last two times. However, I do plan on going on walks still and I do like to do pilates sometimes.
  • I plan to breastfeed, so that will hopefully help. And I will do cardio/weights/yoga, which I've been doing throughout my pregnancy. Lots of walking at first also, especially til I'm cleared for more intense activity.

For me, the hardest part will probably be diet. I eat very well overall, but right now I am not being mindful of portions or really worrying about extra treats. To shift back into a weight loss mentality will be a bit of a challenge. I will probably follow something similar to the Abs Diet.

  • Breastfeeding, and then once cleared after my c-section, will get back into lots of walking and pilates until I can do more intense exercise.

  • see how far EBF gets me then weight watchers. I love WW!

  • Breastfeeding, watching what I eat with the occasional indulgence, and walking. Next spring I plan to start jogging and working up to running again.

Lol- I did that in 2010 just for a fun challenge to myself and ran some really awful, poorly organized races. I vowed not to do it again ;-) (although I also found some really cool ones, so it wasn't a total loss). I got the okay from my doctor during first trimester to sign up for a half in January so I'll be jumping right back into training as soon as I'm able. I'm tempted to do a 2.5 miler (walking) 2 weeks pp if I'm able.

This. When I have a goal for running (distance or time) I find that signing up for races really helps to keep me motivated. Nothing beats that race day feeling!

  • as long as I can exercise without pissing myself (and yes, this is a serious concern) and I'm not too sleep deprived, I hope to be back to running, yoga, strength, etc. ASAP. We'll see if that actually happens.

  • Weight Watchers, Zumba for the Wii, and P90x.

I've heard P90x is ridiculous, but I REALLY want a better body after pregnancy. I'm determined to get it even if the work out is tough.

  • RUNNING!  DF and I had trained for and ran a half marathon in December 2010, and then we went straight into training for a full marathon- planning to run in April of this year, but we got a precious little surprise in February with a positive pregnancy test...one thing we were not planning for, haha.

Anyway, all that to say that a full marathon is still definitely in my sights even though I will have to start back from scratch with training.  I know that this will take all the pregnancy weight off and then some from my experience training for the half.  It will be getting cold outside in the Northeast where I am living now, but I plan to just dress accordingly and still train.  I hope to run a marathon by next summer if not before.

  • We have a vacation planned where I will have to be in a bikini so I am going to watch what I am eating and exercise (run, bike, walk, swim) and hopefully I will be able to get into a bikini 6-7 months after the baby is born and not feel like a whale....

  • Note to self: stop eating mcgriddles and gorditas now to make this easier...

I plan on giving up white foods. That always works for me...only whole grains and no sugar. I also plan on BF for a while...hopefully that will help. I will be getting back to running when cleared and I will do some px90ish videos too. I cant decide which one...we have px90 but I am looking at some others too.

I took spin classes 3x a week pre-pregnancy, I doubt I'll be able to go quite that much, but I'm going to try and get back on a spin schedule.
