Two Under 2

Anyone put both kids in the same room?

I won't have "two under two", but just looking for ways to save space.....ideas for organizing?

  • Yes, my boy/girl duo share a room for now. Eventually we will separate them, but for the time being it works as theres only one addtional bedroom on the same floor as the master BR.

It works fine. They never wake each other up.

In terms of storage, we have an armoire for DSs clothes that stores a ton of stuff, while DD has a dresser and a lot of space in the closet, as she wears lots of dresses.

  • My 2 girls will share a room for now. Our current plan is for DD#1 to sleep in her own bed (crib converted to toddler bed) for now. DD#2 will sleep in a bassinette until she outgrows it, then we will use the bassinette part of our pack n play. During this time, she will be in the same room as DH and I. Once she outgrows that, we will convert DD#1's toddler bed back into a crib and DD#1 will get the full sized bed thats already in her room. We are doing this because we only have 3 bedrooms and I have family who lives out of town about 2.5 hours away but visits at least 2 weekends a month, sometimes more. I wanted to keep a guest bedroom. Also did not want to have 2 girls rooms, not good for resale on our house when we are ready to move.

We have a dresser with hutch, and also an upright dresser. The hutch is good for storage and organization because we can put things into baskets and place them there. The dresser with hutch we use for DD#1's stuff and the upright for DD#2. There is also a walk-in closet in that room that they will share.

  • I plan on doing this with my girls. We have two cribs that both convert to toddler beds. We are going to leave them together I think until either they complain about wanting their own space, or Jr High, whichever comes first lol.

  • We'll be putting both bubs in the same room. DC#2 will share our room for the first 6 months or so. In a hammock until it's outgrown and then a crib sidecarred to our bed. Once DC#2 is STTN we'll transfer to DS's room on a floor bed. We're getting DS a toddler bed soon and DC#2 will get a matching one by about a year old. Our house is pretty small so by using toddler beds for as long as possible they'll still have space to play.

On a separate note, I can't wait till my a/s next week so I can say he or she!!! lol!

  • We're planning on having these two share a room when the baby is roughly 6 months old, or sleeping through the night (maybe earlier than 6 months but I'm not really expecting that, we sleep-trained DS at 6 months and will do it again with this baby if necessary).

I am going to play it by ear though and if neither the baby or DS seem ready to share, we won't.  It is taking some creative reorganizing to make 2 extra bedrooms (DH's home office for his 2 days/week at home has been relocated to the basement for the short-term) but it's important we're all getting good sleep so we will do what we need to do to accomodate that.

  • We're looking for a new house (we're actually moving back to the US), so I have no idea what our space issues will be.

That said, I think we'll keep the new baby in our room for the first 1-2 months (like we did with DS), and then they'll share a room.

  • Yes, they have shared a room since DD2 was 5.5 months and DD1 was 18 months.  We had a four-night adjustment period, but since then, they've been sleeping fine.  They share a closet and a large dresser, and we also have two cribs, a changing table, a small bookshelf and two night stands in the room.
