Convertible Carseat Recommendations

I know it is early to be looking at these, but I am trying to research as much as I can.  Does anyone have any recommendations on convertible car seats?  I have a Honda Element which has suicide doors and could impact our decision.

TIA!

Re: Convertible Carseat Recommendations

  • I'd check here once you've narrowed it down to a few models for your specific car.

I've always been a big Britax fan.  In fact, my X got into a REALLY BAD car crash with the boys (totally and completely not his fault, but it easily could have been fatal) and the police officer said that it may well have had a different outcome if the seats weren't installed properly.  I'm totally insane about carseat safety, and it totally justified it for me.  Anyhow, I've always been really happy with the quality and weight limits of the Britax seats, the last one I had was a forward only, and went up to 80 pounds.  I used the Roundabout for convertible and it was definitely roomy enough for the boys to be rear-facing as long as I chose.  I turned them both forward around 18 months (this was back in the days before recommendation was until 2).

  • I have Britax car seats for both oft children and am very happy with them. I feel that they give the kids good protection, while being comfortable. They go up to a high weight, so you get years out of them. They are easy to install.

  • I've been reading some reviews specifically for the Honda Element and the car seat that keeps coming up is the Combi Zeus 360.  Does anyone know anything about this one?

  • I fourth a Britax.  Regardless of which one you choose.

  • I miss my Honda Element! We finally had to sell it when we had >2 kids, but what a great car!

Highly recommend Britax as well. We use Britax Roundabout for convertible seats and then move them up to Britax Frontier (5-point and booster) when they outgrow the Roundabout. Amazing car seats.

I can't get the site to load.  Sad

I'm seeing really good things about the Roundabout.  Did it fit well in the Element and was it hard to get your LO in and out of it?

  • By the time we finally sold the Element, we had two Roundabouts in the back seats. They were great! I think any rear-facing seat is slightly trickier with the suicide doors, but the Roundabouts worked just fine and I had no problem getting my kids in and out.

Thank you so much!  I read the reviews and they sound great.  I am going to put one on my registry right now.

  • We had Britax Boulevards, which might have been a little overkill.  We probably would have been fine spending less for Marathons.  They lasted until my kids were 4/5 y/o when they outgrew them by height, which peeves me a little since they go up to 65 lbs (which they're no where close to).  But, they were big enough for boosters by then so I guess it worked out ok.  The only other thing I would have done was spend $150 on a convertible and then $150 on a harness booster that converted to a belt positioning and eventually backless booster.  But, it's probably just splitting hairs at this point.
