BFF had her baby! ?s inside

Sooo excited!  My best friend just had a baby girl yesterday!!  I haven't had a chance to talk to her... trying to give her space.  All I know is that she tried pushing, but ended up with an emergency C-section.  She said she's pretty rocked right now and not taking visitors today.  DH and I will probably visit them in the hospital tomorrow.

I've been putting together a gift for them for when baby comes.  I have a nursing tank for mama and a sleep n play and FP seahorse for baby.  No idea what to get daddy.  Any suggestions??

C-section ladies - Any tips on what she might need to help with her recovery?  I had a vag delivery, so I don't know anything about C-sections, other than recovery is usually longer.  Did you ladies need to take stool softener and did you have PP bleeding?  I told her last week that I'd give her my leftover Dulcolax, but not sure if she'll need it with a C-section.  I could pick up some pads for her.

  • A stool softener would be a good idea, that first one can be difficult (sorry if TMI) ...but check with her nurses to see if she can take it.  Quite a bit of PP bleeding, so maybe some extra large pads, I'm talking the big guns, huge long ones that can go up over her incision.  ...if she doesn't have one, maybe get her a boppy ...ours came in VERY handy with both boys.  Really what I needed was just help getting up and down from sitting/laying.   So if her guy has to go back to work sooner than expected maybe just offer your services to come over (if you can).

OH...this is kind of a big one too...bring food - fresh or frozen, doesn't matter, but her guy is going to have his hands full for the first week - 3 weeks, and cooking dinner just adds to the stress.

  • Thanks, flgirl & chrisncassie!  I will pick up some pads and magazines for her.  She's already got a Boppy.  Food is a great idea!

Her hubby is home for 3 weeks and her mom is here for the month, so that will help her out a lot!

  • I had a C-Section, and I needed stool softener for quite a while (since your stomach muscles get cut open anything that causes you to push or strain hurts SO bad, and the surgery itself causes your intestines to slow waaaaay down). I also had heavy pp bleeding for 5 weeks-- I used one pad for the pp bleeding and stuck another pad lengthwise in my underwear to cover my incision (so I went through a lot of them). The most valuable thing people brought, in my opinion, was groceries. A lot of people brought dinner meals, but I couldn't go grocery shopping for other foods (fresh fruits and veggies, salad and sandwhich stuff for lunches, breakfast foods, etc) and I would start sobbing if DH needed to leave because I had trouble lifting or carrying C and I needed help going from a sitting/standing position for the first couple weeks. Maybe you could either get them some groceries or get them a gift card to the grocery store and go sit with your BFF while her husband went shopping? I'm not sure what you could get daddy, but I would guess he'd just be grateful for your help and support Smile Congratulations on your new "niece"!!

Thanks, mamapajama!  The grocery idea sounds great.  I actually just asked DH what I should get the daddy and he said BEER.  Go figure.

  • On my phone -sorry about the formatting. I lived in roll top skirts and pants because I could fold them up over my incision and there was nothing touching my incision. I pushed and ended up with a c-section and it was kind of like delivering both ways so she might be sore "down there' in addition to the c-section pain. A good pair of earplugs so that if either of them wants to take a nap while the other watches the baby they will be able to without waking to every little sound. This time of year the cheap T-shirt knit dresses and skirts would probably be nice because she won't have to bend over to put them on, just make sure she could pull them down if she's nursing. I also loved having a soft wrap or cardigan to cover up quickly since I wasn't able to move fast if someone walked in while I was just in my nursing bra or tank. HTH!

Thanks, lulu!  I wouldn't have thought of the roll-down pants.

  • I agree with LuLu....I lived in my maternity pants from target that were like yoga pants because they had a soft waist that didn't button or zip and there wasn't any elastic.

Another item that would be nice would be a reusable water bottle.  Because of the c-section I am sure she had a ton of IV fluids.  I was very swollen for two weeks after the surgery because of this.  I was nice to have a water bottle available all the time to try to keep hydrated...plus if she is nursing she needs to drink a lot to help with supply.
