My Peanut really is a peanut

11 lb 8 oz and 24 1/2 inches at 4 mo appt today. She hasn't gained weight since her 2 mo appt, but has grown in length. Dr wasn't concerned about the lack of weight gain, but I am :/ think I'm going to email a different dr at the practice to ask his opinion...

Re: My Peanut really is a peanut

  • She is adorable. I would be a little worried about NO weight gain. I would get a second opinion.

  • K didn't gain much between 2 and 4 months. She was 11lbs 5 oz at her 4 month and the dr wasn't worried. He said as long as she is meeting milestones and eating when she is hungry (um hello I don't starve my kid) then she is ok.

  • I'd be worried as well if I were you ... Do you EBF?  If so, then I'd discuss adding formula supplements .. or just do it without a consultation (they'd probably just tell you to go ahead anyway).

Good luck and I hope it resolves itself asap!

  • I have a peanut too, 25 percentile here...which i'm not concerned about.  If he didn't gain weight in two months, I may be a little concerned though.  I think you're doing the right thing by asking for a second opinion.  Go with your gut!

  • Kaitlyn doesn't go for her 4 month till 8/8 but we were at the dr last friday for thrush and she was 11lb 10oz, was 4 months yesterday. Not that I know what I am talking about but did she grow a lot in length? maybe that is the reason for it. thats what popped into my head when I read this. Still wouldn't hurt to ask for another opinion though.

  • Thanks, ladies. She grew 1/2 an inch in length. She is BF 4 or 5x a day and gets one 5 oz bottle of formula (started this at 3 mo bc of daycare).

Btw, she was 7 lb 12 oz at birth.

  • I would be concerned about no weight gain in two months. It never hurts to ask for a second opinion.

Ditto the pp about the formula supplementation if you're EBF.

4-5 feedings a day doesn't seem like enough. Are you feeding on demand or do you follow a schedule? My LO is EBF on demand and we probably do 8 feedings a day.

Also, when you're at work and your LO is getting a bottle, you should pump, otherwise it could be messing up your supply.

In addition to getting a 2nd opinion from a pedi, I would consider talking to an LC.

I agree.  Good idea.  We also do about 8 feedings in a day.
