Worried

I keep reading about all of you hearing the heartbeat at 9/10Weeks + and we still haven't "heared it" but saw it.  Is this normal?  I know with my daughter I think my 2nd appointment was around 12 weeks and we heard it then no problem.  I know the baby is down low since that is where the Dr had the ultrasound thing yesterday.

I keep trying to reassure myself thinking 1.) its a boy :) with a low quiet heartbeat like daddy and/or 2.) the baby wants to wait until Daddy and MIL are here...

Just wondering what you all think?

Re: Worried

  • ive had 6 u/s's because of our slow start in the begining and I have never "heard" the heartbeat, just seen it on the screen. I would love to hear it but they dont really use that feature at our hospital a lot I guess. As long as you saw it, I think thats totally ok!

I don't believe that God ever tells us "no". he has three options. Yes, not right now, or I have something better in mind. We just have to wait & see. BabyFetus Ticker

  • If the baby is "hiding" under your pubic bone, this would cause you to not be able to hear the heartbeat.
  • We heard the heartbeat on the u/s. However, at our most recent dr appointment - the doctor thought 9 weeks was too early to try with the doppler. He was afraid that we wouldn't hear it because it was too soon and freak us out for no reason.
  • I think the baby is "hiding" under the bone because the Doctor was reaching down very low to find it...but at least he has no fears i guess...if the Dr isnt worried I shouldn't be...

  • I think it depends on a lot of factors like position of the baby, weight of the mother, etc. My doctor found it at 9w but warned me first that it was still very early and that he might not be able to find it. It took him a while to search for it as well, so maybe your doctor just hasn't "hit" the right spot (I know when I use my at home doppler, I have to have just the right angle to hear it - and sometimes doctors don't have the extra time to search every square inch).

Congrats on seeing the heartbeat though - at least you know all is well :)

  • I only saw the heartbeat on ultrasound during my first appointment (I was 8w4d).  My drs. office doesn't listen to the heartbeat via ultrasound that early.

My next appointment is at 13w4d and I'm assuming I'll hear the heartbeat via. doppler then.
