Kid's Family Picnic Games

We have a family picnic in August and my mom some how got herself put in charge of games. For the adults we are going to do Minute to Win It game, but she is not sure what to do for the kids. There are only going to be 4 kids ages 5 to 10 (I didn't count DD as she's not even 2 yet and the youngest).

We are going to do the water balloon toss and she does not want to do the egg toss. I suggested a potato sack race. Any other suggestions?

Re: Kid's Family Picnic Games

  • At our family picnic, we always did races for the age groups (it is a big picnic, so we broke it up boys and girls and then like 2-3, 4-6, 7-10). Also, you could get packing peanuts, or sawdust (or use stuff from your home shredder!) and hide money (coins) or toys/candy (in small snack bags) and let the kids go at it. I think with a big group it would be fun to do Simon Says, but that might be a little harder.

  • a scavenger hunt might be fun

  • Water balloons are always a big hit, even if you make extra they will play with them beyond the toss.

For our family reunion last summer I brought our water table and some toys and both DD and some older kids played in it - a 4 yr old and a 7 yr old.

Balls, frisbees, bubbles are usually pretty good for kids of a range of ages too.

  • one of my employees told me that at her reunion there is always a prize for the dirtiest kid. i thought taht was cute
