How many naps is your LO taking? At what times? How long are the naps?
Jays schedual seems to change all the time.
He takes a nap three hours after he wakes up. Usually napes for 45min-3hours. Then naps again between 4-6. Usually last 1-2 hours.
If the morning naps if only 45min. He will take an additional nap at 1pm usually lasts between 45min-1hour.
Re: Nap schedual
Here's is where Whitney is at now:
Up at 7ish.
eat, play.
Back down 830-11.
Up 11- eat, play, back down at 1.
Sleep 1-3 or 4.
Up at 4 eat, play, back down fabout 630-730.
730, eat and play, down by 830 for the night.
Its pretty consistant, but im sure that could change any second ;-)
Evangeline will be consistent for a while, then totally change it up on me. It's hard. But here's what she's been doing for the past week or so:
Up around 6
Nap at 7-7:30am until about 9:30am
Nap at 11am until 12:30 or 1, sometimes longer, sometimes shorter
Depending on when she woke up for the previous nap, she goes down for another around 2:30 until 4/4:30. I try to make it about 1 1/2 hours of wake time, although I think that's going to be extending 1 3/4 soon.
If she didn't get a good afternoon nap for some reason, I'll put her down for one more around 5 or so, but lately we've been skipping that last evening nap. She goes to bed around 7:30-8pm, so I just brace myself for some crankiness the hour before bed.
My little ones schedule looks like this:
Wake up- 7am
Nap- 8:30- 11:00
Nap 1:30-3:30 or 4
A small cat nap at 6:00 for about 30 min I dont let her sleep longer. And then she is down for the night at 8 or 8:30.
All three of my kids have pretty much been on the exact same schedule, until they got to be about 12-18 months, when they move to one super long afternoon nap.
Here's Simon's typical day-
7am- bottle, solids, play
8:30- nap
11am- up, bottle, play
1pm- nap
3pm- up, bottle, play
5pm- cat nap
5:30pm- bottle
6:30pm- sollids
7:30-8pm bottle, bed
so basically 2 real naps and 1 cat nap before dinner. He sometimes skips the cat nap and is a total fuss bucket the rest of the evening.
I am envious of most of you right now.
Julia wakes up about 8ish and then is up for the day. The only way I can get her to nap is if I lay down with her which I do around 2ish. Even then, she will only sleep for about an hour. Then, she goes to bed for the night around 8-8:30ish.
How do you get your LO's to nap so much???
JT is so sporadic - today he was up at 5:50am. Yesterday he was up at 7am. I can only get a 40+ minute nap when I'm laying with him...and even then I sometimes have to put him back to sleep. He was going to bed around 7pm but right now he's fussing in his crib not sleeping (this is after rocking twice and 2 attempts to put him down asleep then he woke up - it's now 8:30). And right now he's crying. I gotta go get 'em.
I bought the Baby Whisperer yesterday by the way. I'm praying...
Obviously every baby is different, but what made a HUGE difference for us was not letting Simon get TOO TIRED. The smallest sign, a little yawn, a second of fussiness, means he's ready for a nap. Usually only after an hour or two of awake time. If we went past that point it was near impossible to get him to lay down.
This. If Levi is fussy, 9 times out of 10, it's because it is time for a nap right now; If we get him down right away, he's out.
We follow the E.A.S.Y. method. It's stands for, "Eat, activity, sleep, yourself time". With this method we have been able to be super consistent with him. So, total, Levi naps 4 times each day.
6am - wake up and Eat
8-9am - nap
9am - Eat
11-12pm - nap
12pm - Eat
1-3pm - Nap
3pm - Eat
5-6pm - Nap
6pm - Eat
8pm - Eat and down for the night
This! Very true for Evangeline too.
So if you see a yawn, you just put him in his crib and walk away? I have tried this with Julia, but she will just scream until she vomits. Strangely, she is totally fine with me just putting her in her crib and walking away at bedtime.
Well, When we see a yawn we go put on a fresh diaper, give him his paci and blanket and snuggle for a minute. Then put down in his crib and walk away. He will usually fuss for a second and then roll over and sleep. Before we got to that point we did the put down/pick up method. Simon would also vomit if he cried, so we never let him cry it out. He'd cry, we'd go pick him up and comfort him, back into the crib once he calmed down. DON'T leave the side of the crib if you're going to try this though. Baby has to realize you're there for them, but they're not getting out of the nap.
Baby J wakes up between 7-8.
She is up for about 3 hours and then naps for 2. Up for 3 hours and then naps for 2 and then is up until she goes to bed for the night between 8:30 and 9 pm. She sometimes takes a nap in the evening, but just for an hour or so.
