Crib or Pack-n-Play... need advice!

Quick question for you ladies!

SO and I live in a one bedroom apartment and we just purchased a crib for Aubrey. I was planning on having her sleep in there since the crib will be close to my bed. I was told by someone that a pack-n-play or bassinet is better for LO when they are younger because it allows them to be close by and can decrease post-pardum depression. I figured having a crib close by my bed would serve as the same factor, but they disagreed. Is this just unwanted/useless advice? Or should we consider getting a bassinet or pack-n-play for Aubrey to sleep in for the first few weeks?

Any second time mom's use the crib immediately instead of a bassinet or pnp?

i would love to have heard this conversation.....what is their thought process behind this crazy idea?

you will be fine with LO in her crib. DD was in her crib, (in her room!!) from the 3rd night home and we all slept better. you have LO as close to you as you feel you need but the actual piece of furniture that she sleeps in (crib vs. pnp) does not make a difference as long as she is comfy.

I think they are confused actually. Having your baby sleep in your room has benefits for both baby and mom, but what the baby sleeps in has little to do with it.

If you are tight on space, dont bother with the Pack'n'play. We use ours a lot, but if it were one or the other, go for the crib!

I guess it was just the crazy advice some people give during pregnancy. I just wasn't sure if there was an issue or not because I'd much rather just use the crib!

I'm a little confused. Is the crib in your room? If so, I wouldn't bother with the PNP. Your friend's rationale for having the baby in your room would apply whether LO is in a crib in your room vs a PNP/bassinet in your room. Some parents prefer to have LO sleep in the same room as them while others want LO to be in a separate bedroom, but since you only have a 1 bedroom, I'm not sure if that's your question.

I'm confused how a crib or a pack n play are any different if they are in your room. I think the point is that you have them close by in your room not whether they are in something constructed of wood vs. something made from heavy duty nylon.

We have a pack n play set up in our room and then 2 cribs in the nursery...we put the pack n play in our room just because it takes up less space, and we knew we wanted one for when they went to grandma's but if we could have fit two cribs in our room and didnt need a pack n play I wouldnt have thought twice about it.

I was confused too, which is why I posted this. He mentioned SIDS with crib use too, so I wasn't sure.

When we had DS, we were living in a one bedroom apartment at the time. We ended up putting the PNP in our room to start and the crib was in the living room. We figured he'd be in the PNP for at least a couple months. He ended up hating the PNP and basically slept in his crib right away which we ended up putting in our room. Definitely just use the crib if you want!

They must have meant a crib in another room, otherwise the whole discussion would make no sense. Go ahead and use the crib, with no blankets or bumpers and you'll be fine.
