Now I have to get a CT scan!

This whole IUD thing has been a nightmare for me! Now since I never felt the strings, and never saw/felt it come out I have to go in and get a CT scan to check that it's not lost inside me somewhere. I have to drink that radioactive dye crap so once again, I'm banned from nursing. I freaking hate this crap! Ugh!

  • Wow, this really stinks. :(  I hope everything turns out okay!
  • You don't have to pump and dump! I had a CT scan with iodine contrast 3 weeks ago, and was told by ER staff & the CT staff that I had to pump and dump for 24-48 hours.  I really don't trust anyone other than lactation staff to recommend pumping and dumping, as a lot of medical professionals just don't know enough about what effects breastmilk.  I called the lactation department at the hospital the next day, who confirmed that I could have been nursing immediately after the CT scan.  Here is a link to some information on kellymom about this as well: https://www.kellymom.com/health/meds/radioisotopes.html. I hope you haven't had to waste any milk yet! :-)

  • oh no!  That happened to a friend of mine.  The IUD perforated her uterus and was floating around in her abdomen. Good luck!

Did it affect her ability to become pregnant in the future?

Thank you. I will check this out. I scheduled it for next Friday so I could build a supply for the time I would be pumping and dumping.

Her OB said it wouldn't affect her ability to get pregnant.  She doesn't know how many months it was floating around like that.  She went to the doctor, because she was getting her period all the time...probably from the IUD being in a weird place.  She's going to start trying for #2 soon.

Let me know how that goes. I sure hope her doc is right! And also I pray mine just fell out in the toilet or (and I really think this is the case) it removed itself when the doc took the speculum out.
