Water Park at 16 weeks?

DH and I found a great deal on a lodge & water park in our old college town for this weekend. I was really excited, then remembered "oh yeah, I'm pregnant." I'll be 16 and a half weeks, and my doctor's office said it would be fine as long as I didn't go on any fast rides, etc. I was wondering if any of you had experience with this. I love water parks, and am extremely comfortable in the water (actually, I love it about as much as a fish, and thus why I'm really really wanting to go). Obviously, I would be careful, and baby and I were perfectly healthy at our last checkup. Any advice from ladies who have braved this scenario?

  • I haven't went to one yet while pregnant, but am planning to go to one soon. I will probably just hang out in the lazy river a lot of the time, along with the wave pool. Same places I stayed when I wasn't pregnant (I'm freaked out by water slides lol).

  • Ditto pp about the lazy river and wave pool.  just avoid the slides.

  • I think as long as your doctor has said it's ok and you are careful then go for it! We go to the pool all the time but I'm not big on water slides.

  • I am kind of looking forward to showing off my bump...My apron at work isn't conducive to that and it's been frustrating me lol.

I used to love the big slides and stuff, but this is actually a first for DH, and he's not nearly as comfortable in the water as I am, so I have a feeling he's going to love an excuse to hang out on the lazy river and smaller, slower rides. I think I'm going to go ahead & reserve our tickets...It's one night's stay in a lakeside resort lodge & 2 tickets to the water park for $150, it's kind of hard to pass up...

  • I would think that it would be fine to go on the more gentle slides. It's probably fine to go on almost all of them honestly but some of those slides are just easy and fun. You probably go through more on a typical car ride!

  • I would kick back and float around in a tube.  Some parks have those rivers that you can float around in...I would hit that up.  I would steer clear of slides.  I was in a double tube that flipped in a tunnel and knocked my head pretty hard on the slide.  From then on I've been very wary of water slides.
  • I just got back from a week at the beach and I swam, snorkeled right off shore, and happily floated on my raft in the waves.  Even did some swimming.  I was 19 weeks.  Just stay off the rides and hang out in the lazy areas and I'm sure you will be fine.  Have fun!
  • We went to Blizzard Beach yesterday.  We had a blast.  They had an advisory against pregnant women riding most of the adult slides so I avoided all of them and hung out with DD instead.  I was able to play with DD in the toddler area and go on all the rides she could go on.

  • I went on the long, twisty slide that is at our pool and about threw up.  I've had serious issues with motion sickness this time around so I'd be parking it in the wave pool or lazy river and avoiding the slides.  I've never had motion sickness before and have always been a bit of a daredevil when it comes to things like that so it isn't normal for that to bother me.  Still should be fun though either way!

  • I live in Florida, so we do water parks almost every other weekend. I hang out in the lazy river, and the pool. Depending on how im feeling, ill do some small slides, or like the family tube rides. I wont do any body slides or single tube rides. I havet done them since I was 18 weeks though. I probably wouldnt do ANY slides after that.. hope this helps! enjoy your vaca.
  • I went when I was 20 weeks....

I stayed on the lazy river, go in the kiddy pool, would walk my nephew  and husband up to the big slides and my husband braved the water slides with my nephew.  I was quite content frying in the lazy river.

I used to love big slides; I had an incident a few years ago where I was sent down the water slide adn someone too soon after me. I ended up getting a concussion. Since then, I've not been on a water slide.

  • I just went to our local water park two weekends ago.  We all figured it would be fine to go in the lazy river and wavy pool, but both places had advisory warnings against pregnant women going in them.  I was shocked but since I worry so much I decided not to really chance it.  My DH and I stayed in the pool thats about 2 foot deep and really just sat there.  He was such a tropper about it...and I felt horrible for him not being able to do much else, but he was insistant that if it was safest to not go to those things, then we shouldn't.

  • My doctor, who is really cool about telling me which things I can or can't do -- I ask a lot of questions -- told me almost everything is ok as long as you are comfortable... so stop if something hurts or doesn't feel right (like biking).

Her one exception? WATERSLIDES.  They are a big NO-NO.  Anything that forces water up into your vagina, avoid during pregnancy.  (I can't think of what else does, though ...) Also avoid hot tubs, but I think that one is more common sense?

This is why water parks give discounts for preggos (ask, they don't advertise them).  Because all you can do is the wave pool and lazy river.
