I'm scheduled for a 5DT tomorrow but have no clue how to decode the daily updates I'm getting. Most of the resources online are for a 3DT, and make it sound like most of my LOs are lagging behind except for our two rockstars. Is there a good resource for figuring out the right size for each day, likelihood of making it to freeze, etc.? Our clinic doesn't grade, so I'm getting confused.
By way of reference, today's report (4 days after ER) is as follows: 1 embryo at the 4 cell stage, 4 embryos at the 6-7 cell stage, 3 embryos @ 8-9 cell stage, 1 embryo @ 14 cell stage, and 1 embryo at early morula.

I am of no real help. But I do know that each clinic grades embies differently so you may have to take the info with a grain of salt. And unfortunately, it has been so long since my last IVF, I don't remember how my clinic does it...sorry.
That said, I am really rooting for you lady! GL tomorrow!
Moving forward with Adoption 2017!

Sorry for the newb question but do they have to make it to blast to be frozen?

I thought by day 5 they are at the blastocyte stage (boat loads of cells)? But maybe that is not always the case?
Like other posters have said, each clinic grades them differantly. So its really confusing.
My first IVF was a fresh. I had 9 eggs retreived and 5 fertilized. My clinic gave me updates each day, but just said "they are all continuing to grow". I had a day 6 transfer. On that day they told me all were in the blastocyte stage and were all "high grade" (I think AA and AB - although I'm nost sure what that means). Since it was my first IVF I only transfered 1. They let the other 4 continue to "grow" over night, and the next day I was told that "all four were continuing to grow and were still high grade, and were of freezing quality, so all 4 were frozen".
Keep in mind though that these grades are not the end all to be all. Not all high grade embryos turn into sucessful pregnancies, and plenty of "lower quality" embryos have turned into sucessful pregnancies. Its really just a way for them to your embryos to each other and pick which ones of your are the most likely to suceed. I've done 1 fresh and 1 frozen with 1 "high quality" blastocyte each time, and both were BFN.
I would just ask your nurse or RE what these numbers they are giving you mean. Are they progressing normally? etc.
GL tomorrow!!!

EDD 10/15/16
At 20-week anatomy scan found IUGR (Intrauterine Growth Restriction), and very low Amniotic Fluid. Now, I'm High Risk and have weekly ultrasounds to monitor fluid and growth. If baby runs out of room or is too growth restricted, they will deliver ASAP. My current goal is to make it to 28 weeks!
Yes, every lab has it's own grading system, but they all want the development to be around the same place. It also depends on when they check the embryos, as they can grow a lot between am and pm.
day 3
day 5
Blasts that develop fully on d6 rather than d5 are just fine. Some are just slow.
Clinics that I have been to freeze blasts of high quality only. This doesn't waste $ or time on poor quality embryos and facilitates successful FETs. That being said, some clinics freeze earlier, but with the added frustration (to the patient) of embryos not making past the thaw, or being of poor quality and making FETs more difficult and the potential of nothing to transfer greater.
Good luck tomorrow!
not a prob!! in my clinic they freeze them no later than day 6, and don't freeze on day 3, so yes in that case they do need to make to blast to be frozen!! if they don't look great on day 5 or 6, freezing them would be of no use!!
2/06 - surprise pregnancy - twins
3/06 - m/c 1st baby at 6 weeks

Well, as a previous poster mentioned you need to know what day/time the person doing the checking looked- not what day it is now.
Ideal for day 3 is 8 cells. Ideal for day 4 is a morula. Ideal for day 5 is Blast. In between there's a lot of growing in those two days. It's okay to be a day or so behind- that's just a slow grower. It's okay to be a little bit ahead. But that's a huge range for embryos.
If it's on day 3- the 6-7 and 8-9 are the ones to keep the closest eye on. The morula is too far ahead, the 4 cell is too far behind.
If it's day 4- you'll want to keep an eye on the 8-9's, 14, and morula and hope that some catch up happens (and it does happen)
If they looked midway through three or almost to 4, the ideal range could be anywhere between- or if you had to rescue ICSI any of the eggs on day 1 (day 0 is retrieval)- they could be legitimately one day behind without even being slow.
Freeze depends heavily on the clinic. My clinic will freeze an excellent looking morula on day 5/6. Anything that makes it to blast makes the cut as well. I've seen pictures of all but one of my frosties (and my 2 transferred) and my one morula was a little sad looking, one of the blasts was amazing, one was excellent, one was great but nothing special, and one of my blasts didn't survive freeze but had a good composition. At this point (one failed transfer, one early miscarriage) I wish they'd been a little more selective and don't have high hopes for the third string lone ranger waiting in the freezer- but the doc swears that my embryos are beautiful and reminds me that they don't have to look perfect to make a perfect baby.... so maybe I've just had bad luck.
