Kre8tive names go way back

Some names have been "Kre8tive" for many years.  Like my name, Megan.  People have spelled in insane ways.  I used to be in an organized Irish dance group and at competitions the names were always published in a pamphlet. As a little girl I remember looking through it going why are people spelling my name a million different ways.

Megan

Meghan

Meagan

Meaghan

Meeghan

Maygun

Maygin

There were many other but I cant remember

OMG its all the same name...just pick one or two ways!

  • Meghan has always been my favorite spelling of the name, but I apparently really like names with H's, Hannah, Rebekah, Sarah, Nadezdha (Natalie in Russian).  I don't know why, the four former names just don't look complete to me without the H!

    Britney

    Britanie

    Britnee

    Brytany

    Brittani

And the list goes on and on. Mish-mashed endings, choosing to use one or two "t"s, trading "y"s for "i"s, it alll happened with my name, lol.

  • Sometimes when a name is anglicized it can end up being spelled eighteen different ways. This is especially true of Irish names since in the Gaelic format they don't look anything like their phoenetic spelling. I think this is why there are so many ways to spell Megan in particular. We're giving our son the middle name Padraig.

Yeah, but Megan is not really an Anglicized Irish name. It is a Welsh diminutive ending (-an) added to a nn for Margaret (Meg) ? basically, it's a Welsh pet name for Margaret. And it is spelled Megan. People faux-Irish it up to make themselves feel special. Like, oh, it's "Irish," so let me throw a few random extra letters in there so it's all nice and unpronounceable.

    Megan.

    Seriously.

  • I've met a lot of butchered Crystals in my life: Cristal, Krystall, Krystle...

I've also known a Jenniphur, Nicoal, and a Cyndi. Then there is my aunt Khrystene...
