DH and I found a great deal on a lodge & water park in our old college town for this weekend. I was really excited, then remembered "oh yeah, I'm pregnant." I'll be 16 and a half weeks, and my doctor's office said it would be fine as long as I didn't go on any fast rides, etc. I was wondering if any of you had experience with this. I love water parks, and am extremely comfortable in the water (actually, I love it about as much as a fish, and thus why I'm really really wanting to go). Obviously, I would be careful, and baby and I were perfectly healthy at our last checkup. Any advice from ladies who have braved this scenario?
Re: Water Park at 16 weeks?
I am kind of looking forward to showing off my bump...My apron at work isn't conducive to that and it's been frustrating me lol.
I used to love the big slides and stuff, but this is actually a first for DH, and he's not nearly as comfortable in the water as I am, so I have a feeling he's going to love an excuse to hang out on the lazy river and smaller, slower rides. I think I'm going to go ahead & reserve our tickets...It's one night's stay in a lakeside resort lodge & 2 tickets to the water park for $150, it's kind of hard to pass up...
I went when I was 20 weeks....
I stayed on the lazy river, go in the kiddy pool, would walk my nephew and husband up to the big slides and my husband braved the water slides with my nephew. I was quite content frying in the lazy river.
I used to love big slides; I had an incident a few years ago where I was sent down the water slide adn someone too soon after me. I ended up getting a concussion. Since then, I've not been on a water slide.
I just went to our local water park two weekends ago. We all figured it would be fine to go in the lazy river and wavy pool, but both places had advisory warnings against pregnant women going in them. I was shocked but since I worry so much I decided not to really chance it. My DH and I stayed in the pool thats about 2 foot deep and really just sat there. He was such a tropper about it...and I felt horrible for him not being able to do much else, but he was insistant that if it was safest to not go to those things, then we shouldn't.
My doctor, who is really cool about telling me which things I can or can't do -- I ask a lot of questions -- told me almost everything is ok as long as you are comfortable... so stop if something hurts or doesn't feel right (like biking).
Her one exception? WATERSLIDES. They are a big NO-NO. Anything that forces water up into your vagina, avoid during pregnancy. (I can't think of what else does, though ...) Also avoid hot tubs, but I think that one is more common sense?
This is why water parks give discounts for preggos (ask, they don't advertise them). Because all you can do is the wave pool and lazy river.
