congestion When to call pediatrician?

LO is 5 weeks old and has had a hard time sleeping all night, making grunting sounds as if he was trying to cough but couldn't. nose sounded stuffy so i ket trying to clear it but nothing came out.

lots of spit up this morning, no fever, still sounding like his chest is congested... and a tired, fussy baby.

not sure what i should do?

*update* called the doctor's office, spoke to a nurse who suggested saline as well and continuing to clear his nose... still worried though.

  • My DS is also 5 weeks old, and has similar issues. My pediatrician told me we can spray a saline solution up his nose & use the aspirator to clear anything out. I haven't tried it yet, so I can't tell you how well it works, sorry. But it is safe to use a nasal saline solution. :)

  • The Saline Spray and Aspirator do wonders!! Sophie was so congested the week we brought her home.  The saline will help with any swelling in the nasal passage, as well as, help clear crusty mucus.  I'd also recommend using a cool air humidifier.

  • Our LO has been congested off & on since we brought her home, she even "lost her voice" for about 12 hours & I was sooo stressed.  I attributed it to all the heavy smoke from the fires we've been having around here.  No fever though & I just plug in the humidifier every night & put baby Vick's right on top of the lid, it's helped tremendously.
