Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Refusing to stay in crib & sleeping

My dd (almost 17 mos) climbed out of her crib last night for the first time. Now she refuses to stay in it - when I put her in it, she cries like it is the worst thing I could ever do to her. She shares a room with dd1, I can't let her cry, she could wake her up. If she had a toddler bed, I know she wouldn't stay in it, she is so active, but we might have to do that.

She is napping in our bed now, I ended up rocking her to sleep while trying to calm her down after putting her in the crib. So I know she was tired & I never rock her to sleep, she usually doesn't like it.

I am not sure what to do. Any advice/suggestions on how to get her to stay and go to sleep in her bed? Or any advice on how to go about the transition to a toddler bed with a younger toddler? Dd1 was so easy, but she was older when she changed beds.

I'd get her a crib tent.  There's no way I'd put my 17 month old in a bed yet, I don't even feel like it would be safe to let her have that kind of freedom yet.  And it could do way more harm than good.

Could one of your girls temporarily sleep in another room?  We've got DD napping in the main floor laundry room right now due to DS's toddler bed issues (fighting sleep, making a ton of noise).  Not ideal, but having him upstairs and her downstairs ensures she still gets the rest she needs while we work with DS.
