My DH and I are all for boy names being boy names and girl names being girl names. That said, my BIL/SIL wants to name his LO Linkyn (pronounced Lincoln) To me, a k and a y make the name more feminine. If that's what they choose in the end, that is fine. However, what if that just didn't cross their mind? Should we bring it up that we think the k/y makes it more fem? Personally, if it was my child, I would want to know. Not from some stranger on the street of course but family is different.
p.s. i'm not judging how people name their children. I know that it is a personal choice that is the right of the parent.
My question is simply if we should let them know our real opinion or if we should just say "we like it"
Re: opinion on name? clicky poll

We also agree with the traditional spelling.. I love my name (DeAnna) but as a kid I hated having to spell it all the time... My DH went by his middle name(first name was same as dad's) and also was frustrated at times having to explain the situation... they didn't want to spell it that way i think because it was like the president. Personally, I think no matter how you spell it, people are going to think of the president.
Thanks for that input.. I didn't add it in the post because I didn't want to make it complicated...
Man, that spelling is atrocious...
I'd probably casually ask them why they're spelling it the way they are. If they get defensive and seem to feel really strongly about it, don't say anything. But if they don't sound sure, I would definitely mention that it makes the name look a little girly
ETA: And I wouldn't lie and say that I like it. Just congratulate them on deciding. If they ask you if you like it, feel free to say you like the name, but not the spelling
ill add uneducated, trashy and horrendous....i wouldnt worry about feminine

All of this. And if I was going to say anything about it being girly I also might try to think of a way to nicely say that their child will probably spend his entire life correcting people on the spelling and pronunciation.
О Привязать! Z!
Are they fans of Linkin Park? Yuck.
Despite that being one of the most horrifying names I've ever seen, I think that unsolicited outright name criticism is obnoxious. I totally agree with previous posters that it would be good to ask them why they're spelling it like that... if it opens the way to a conversation, great.
That's why they added the "y"- they didn't want traditional Lincoln, They didn't want Linkin like Linkin Park so ended with Linkyn..... I think we'll do what everyone said- bring it up and see if they ask our opinion or mention something along the lines of "oh we considered that name" or something... it's DH bro so he'll be doing the talking! thanks for the tips!!
