Now that we know it's a boy, there's some thinking to do. Carrying on my husband's name is super important for his family (it's been passed down for forever)...so this baby will be Hendrik Jacobus. I know it's not something you see everyday (in America anyway-the name is Dutch), but it's special to us! I call DH Hendrik, his parents call him Hendri, and his best friend calls him Hennie. Sometimes he introduces himself as Henry, just to keep it simple here in the States. He has no preference of what people call him (which I find kind of odd). He is open to discussions of what to call the baby, though he prefers a variation of the first name. I am up in the air, will need to get used to any of them, and hate "Hennie" so that won't be on the list.
Re: Which nickname? (clicky poll)
It is a very common name in Germany, too (I am German) and the nickname is usually Henni.
I went to school with twins named Hendrik (boy) and Henrike (girl). Her nn was Hennie and his was Henner.

After reading posts....I like Rik too!! I think that will distinguish between DH and LO.
Ditto. That's what I was thinking.
Thanks
I would probably just automatically go with Hendrik...if it weren't that we live in Charlotte at the moment, and there's Rick Hendrick racing stuff everywhere, and "Hendrick Hondra" and "Hendrick Motorsports." The name has always been beautiful to me, but something about the racing/car dealer correlation where we're living now makes it sound kind of redneck for a kid's name (no offense meant to racing fans).
But then we probably won't live here forever so that thought is probably just silly.
