Trying to Get Pregnant

what makes a chart triphasic?

I am still VERY new at charting, and while Im reading all the courses in FF, Im still a bit unsure.. How does one know if their chart is triphasic, and does that indicate a higher likelyhood of pregnancy?

  • According to FF, a couple of my charts have been triphasic so you can look at them.

Triphasic is 3 phases: your pre-O temps, then your temp spike and post-O temps.  The 3rd is another rise in temps in post-O time, keeping your temps even higher.  This is a good indication of pregnancy, but plenty of charts don't look triphasic and get a BFP, just as charts may look great but get a BFN.  You can search charts on FF to see what those look like!

Thats my understanding--someone jump in if I'm wrong.

ETA: I'm not wrong, and I found a link that better explains: click here.

Yes This! However, just because a chart is triphasic doesn't mean you are pregnant (even though it is a good sign). If you want you can click on my ticker and see my chart from last month (June 19). FF told me on CD22 that my chart had turned triphasic....however it ended in a BFN.

  • The triphasic pattern is pretty obvious when you have it. It's basically two different temp spikes, one normally after the time that implantation would occur. I use TCOYF charting software, and it tells you when it is triphasic.

Just a word of caution - TCOYF states that a triphasic chart is "virtually always" a sign of pregnancy. I have had triphasic charts more times than I can count, and always a BFN. Don't take too much stock in them or the "implantation dip" (which I have this month....lol).
