**Traveling with a sitter**

so Dh and I are discussing vacation plans for next year (we like to have at least a game plan so i can watch air fare, etc.) and it looks like my gram is not into coming (I get it- she's old) so we are talking about taking my cousin. We're close so it wouldnt be an issue- but I dont want her to be super bored...

anyone traveled with a mothers helper/sitter? should we take 2 girls so during the day or when they aren't helping they have each other?

Re: **Traveling with a sitter**

  • Bringing two girls would double the cost of your vacation - so no, I wouldn't do that. I don't need to go anywhere that bad. I would take your cousin - she'll be fine. The only time she'd be bored is when you leave her with the kids to go out to dinner....but if she has a laptop and FB access, she'll be fine :)

  • i think it would depend on where you go.
  • I would be concerned that 2 girls would be more into each other than LOs.  At home is one thing, but traveling brings along a whole new set of dangers that need extra attension from adults.  Hotel rooms are NOT child proof!  So I would say just take one.  And the cost is always an issue, but I guess if you can afford an extra head.
  • My sister just did this, and it was a 14 yr old family member (cousins child). They just took one and it worked out great for them.

I agree about 2, they would want to hang out and not watch L.

  • Bringing 2 would get really expensive IMO. If it's a cousin you're close with then you can be her company when she's not "on duty". We brought my mom to Disney with us as a sitter once. She's amazing. She didn't pay for hotel or airfare and then we gave her money for her and J during the day to do stuff. She's pretty independent but I know when she wasn't helping- she had fun just relaxing; laying by the pool or at the pool bar.

  • Thanks for the advice girls~ the other girl would also be another cousin- so they are both family and they are both responsible so I'm  not worried they wouldnt watch L and baby 2..

I know my husband doesnt mind one person he's not too keen on 2 but he'd gladly pay to know our kids are in good hands- KWIM...

so another ?- I dont think my cousin has her passport- should we pay for this since we want her to come with us? We are obvs paying for food and lodging and giving some spending money while she's with us- but since we want to take her- should we pay for it?

You might want to pay just so it gets done. If she has $$ from a job that's one thing.  But if she's only getting a few bucks here and there from babysitting paying for the passport probably isn't her priority.
