POLL: same sound at end of first/ beginning of last name

I've noticed that a lot of people seem to really dislike it when first names end with the same letter/ sound that the last name starts with. Like: Jack Carson, Erin Norris, etc.  It happens that one of the names we're seriously considering ends with with the same name that her last name both begins and ends with (it's a hyphenated last name, and the name in question is Iris. The last name is S____-____s.  Honestly, it doesn't bother me at all, but I hear this complaint enough to wonder if everyone else will have a bad reaction.  

What are your thoughts, in general? Phonetically abhorrent? Doesn't matter? Are there mitigating circumstances under which this is OK (like, in our case, both S's in the last name are paired with a consonant, whereas in Iris the S is paired with a vowel)? Am I overthinking this?

    ok I'm having comprehension issues.

    Can you tell us the name and then make up a last name that sounds close to yours? That would help a lot. 

    ETA: Ok, I reread it a little slower. So it's like: Iris Smith-Piers? I think the problem a lot of times is that they run together and sound like one name. Like I love the NN Leo, but with my last name is similar to Olberman (like Keith Olberman) and it sounds like Leolberman. One word, you see? But I think it just depends on your LN. It could work, but it could sound odd.

    To me some sound odd and some sound fine. So Iris S.... might sound ok depending on your last name. If I say Iris Smith for example, it sounds ok to me.

    Yes, Iris Smith-Piers would be a similar name.  Sorry to be confusing.

    No that's ok...I think I'm just tired...

    I don't think Iris Smith-Piers is THE WORST...but the double S's are a bit snake-like.

    Our last name begins with S and we are trying to avoid first names that end with S.  I think it might be particularly because our name starts with four consonants, so it's a mouthful to begin with.  There are people in DH's family whose last names end in S, but they tend to go by nicknames

    This is cringe-worthy to me.  I hate it when the fn ends in the same sound the ln starts with.  It just doesn't flow off the tongue correctly, and depending on the sound that is running together you have to pause as you are saying the name to differentiate the fn from the ln if that makes sense.  Personally I would avoid this, but that's just me.

    I would try to avoid it. My LO will have a last name that begins with "A", and finding a girl name that doesn't end in "A" has significantly lowered our options (we've still considered some, but this already leaves those names at a disadvantage).

    However, if it doesn't bother you, then it doesn't really matter. In all fairness, your daughter won't be saying her full name that often.

    I know a woman named Lynn Lind.  Her granddaughter was just name Katelyn Lind.  I think that's awful.
