I am watching the most recent episode that I DVR'd. It's got the lady that says she was a PhysEd teacher and has over 700 pairs of shoes or something like that.
Holy crap her house is like a Pods storage container.
How does it get this bad????
My Book BlogA Lucy, a lost tube, two lost babies, and another on the way!
Hoarders is disgusting!! Most of them are not only hoarders of items, but trash and garbage. They are filthy. I feel stress when I have a sink full of dishes. I hate extra junk and go thru my house every 3 months to get rid of things I don't use or like to look at and give them to charity. I feel anxiety over having too many things. My grandparents and aunt were hoarders. My aunt's house had pathways to walk through. A whole house full of Pottery Barn and beautiful things piled floor to ceiling, still in bags and boxes. But I can't stand to even be in there. It made me grow up as a minimalist.
However, I find nothing wrong with 700 pairs of shoes
That show repulses me! Have you seen the one about the lady who had like 70+ cats in her house? There were dead carcasses everywhere and she had no clue.
Rachel, mama to Ava (6), Olivia (4), Nora (2), and baby#4 on the way.

Yes and I had to turn it off half way through.
In the episode that I just watched they opened the fridge that hadn't been opened in a year. The producer or whomever said that there were critters and things growing in there.
Barf.

That show is like a car wreck, you can't help but watch!! The worst ones I've seen are the lady with all the cats and there was an older woman who didn't have water or heat in her house for over a year. She went to the bathroom in plastic bags and just threw them in the bathroom on the floor, which ended up all the way to the ceiling.
My DH can't watch the show because he grew up in a house with hoarders, his parents are. It's so sad to hear him talk about how he had NEVER had a friend over for a sleepover when he was a kid and that the only people that have been in that house are his parents, his brother and him since he was born. I could NEVER live like that.

After Katrina, I went down to help gut houses that had been flooded. One of the houses we did was of a horder. We had to load everything in the front yard to be taken away (it was filled with mold, etc from the 12 ft flood waters). We filled up the dumpster with just half a room. The rest had to just be left in the front yard.

The whole situation was so sad on so many levels.
