Enfamil AR/Similac Sensitive Spit up?

We've been transitioning from ebf to formula (he still nurses at breakfast and bedtime/night feedings). He's always been a happy spitter but it's even worse with the formula. And it seems to bother him more.

We've tried Similac Advanced, Enfamil Infant and Similac Sensitive...luckily all samples. I read that Enfamil AR and Similac Sensitive Spit-up might help because of the rice protein. But--there were mixed reviews and since we don't have samples, we'll have to purchase one. I was hoping to get your thoughts on them so we can hopefully get lucky with one type.

Thanks!!

Re: Enfamil AR/Similac Sensitive Spit up?

  • How long have you tried each one?  DD using similac sensative, and I made the mistake of switching to advance, and it took a while to get her to not spit up all the time, don't get me wrong, she still spits up like crazy.

Also, we just add a little rice cereal to her formula, and it makes a big difference.

  • We tried the Advance for only a couple of days because the spitting up was so bad. The Enfamil was for about a week and the sensitive is what we're doing now and it's been about a week. After the first day or two on the formula, I don't notice any change/improvement.

Ask your pedi for a sample can. The first time we tried AR, I called my pedi to get her take on it and she said to swing by the office because they had some sample cans I could try. I noticed an immediate difference on it. Lena was also a happy spitter until about 3 months, then she went back to being a happy spitter after being put on Zantac. GL!

    Yes

We tried 7 different formulas before coming to the formula DS is on right now. We did not pay for or buy a single one because our pedi always gave us two sample cans.

  • my ds has always been a happy spitter too.  i ebfed my him for the first 8 weeks. after that we used good start, which he liked, but he spit up like crazy.  we added rice cereal to his formula, which helped at first, but then he continued to spit up.  finally the dr gave him mediciation, which made his spit up become throw up! THEN....we switched to similac sensitive spit up and it made a WORLD of a difference. he spits up occasionally, and seems to be in much less pain.  i would DEFINITELY give it a try :) i'm not sure if they only have it ready to feed everywhere, but at the target and walmart where I live they only have rtf.  i can find it for $3.84 a container at walmart, he uses about 1 container every 1.5 days or so, so its cheaper than powder formula, too! good luck! feel free to pm me with any questions:)

I agree with asking the Ped for a sample. Since the recall (last year I think?) they stopped making powder for a bit, and I have yet to see it in my area. But you can get a bottle of the RTF for SpitUp for less than $4 most places. We use that and the other Sensitive and baby does well on both.
