boob help...

Are my girls supposed to be hurting THIS much?  Gabriel BF but we had to use a shield, so my nipples never got the action they are getting now.  I want to scream when she latches but as her feeding progresses, it gets bearable.  Righty seems to be throbbing right now, has been for the last 90 minutes.  They both had scabbed a bit but aren't anymore.  I am so glad she's latching (for the most part) but this is killer.... does it get better?  When?

Re: boob help...

  • I have definitely been there... and there are times that it still hurts.  If it doesn't get better though, call a lactation consultant.

Are you using Lanisoh?  That helped for sure.

  • Yes, it definitely hurts. It's getting better but it's still painful. Hang in there.
  • Yes, it does hurt.  I agree with Brooke, make sure you are using Lansinoh Lanolin on your nipples.  I went through a whole ton of it especially the first week and I think it helped so much!
  • They will hurt to high heaven for a couple of weeks and then one day you won't even notice it.?

Definitely use the lanisoh after every nursing. It really helps. Every now & then, I even popped advil 1/2 hour before I thought she'd nurse to help the pain before it started. That helped too. ?

And just know that it really does get better. ?

  • I agree with Crazy...before I switched to EP, I'd take an advil about 1/2 hour before I anticipated her nursing and that helped a lot!
  • Ugh, yes, it was horribly painful for a while.  But, like crazy said, one day, it just wasn't as painful.  It took longer for me because I did use a shield for a couple of weeks with her.  So, once I weaned off the shield, it was probably a few weeks before I didn't have that kind of pain.  There is an end to this!!
  • Rachel,

Do you  have a good supply already? Mine milk still has not come in. I am not getting the very thick colostrum anymore, but more of a watery golden fluid. I can't even cover the bottom of a bottle yet though. I called the doctor on call for meds to help but after reading the side effects, I am going to wait to talk to my doctor Monday about it. TIA

Yes, I think so.  We were having to supplement with formula in the hospital per doctor's orders b/c of the jaundice (48 hours under the lights from Wed-Fri morning) but I have enough now where we don't have to do so anymore.  I think my milk started coming in later on Thursday?  With both of my babies it was about a 3 day span after delivery where it came in.  I am sure yours will come soon, I am pretty sure I just read a post where some other girls said it was common for it to be a week for them?
