Planning LO's first outfit ?

I'm living up north.  The temperature might be hot, cold, warm, chilly, freezing...  Well, I just don't know.  What are you planning on buying for your baby to wear when you get out of the hospital?

TIA!

Re: Planning LO's first outfit ?

  • I live in Tennessee, so the weather could very well be hot or cold here. You just don't know what the temp's going to be sometimes. LOL! I've been wondering about that too. Also wondering what size clothes to take. I would assume newborn unless she is large (then would she wear a 0-3 month size?), but since I'm new ot all of this, I don't really have a clue. LOL!

I bought one newborn outfit and I don't plan on buying more.  Everybody keeps telling me that they don't fit long enough.  I'm buying like five 0-3 months outfits.  I hope it's enough!  If not, DH is going to be running to the store!  : )

  • I'm bringing a newborn outfit (2 piece outfit) to the hospital along with a coat/hat for the baby and a blanket.  I'm due the end of Oct, so there's a chance I could be bringing a baby home in November, so I think that should suffice.

  • We'll just use a cute onesie and pair of pants...not investing in cute newborn outfits..since we don't know what size our baby will be...but have tons of cute 0-3, so if the baby doesnt drown in those..maybe one of those outfits.
  • DS was average size when he was born 7.5 pounds and 19 inches long.  He weighed 7 when we went home.  He was swimming in his newborn outfit.  We will be buying her a newborn sized outfit.  I'll be buying  some sort two piece outfit that will probably be long sleeved and maybe a hoodie.

DS wore a fleece outfit home with his car seat cover for February.  obviously too hot for Oct.

  • DS was 7lb6oz and was in newborn sizes for the first month.  They go through lots of clothes changes a day in the first couple months - leaking diapers, spitups, etc - so I did find it helpful to have 10-15 outfits in the newborn sizes, mostly onesies and sleeper type outfits, so I didn't have to do laundry every day.  We didn't do a fancy outfit to bring him home, just a sleeper than buttoned up.  We'll probably do the same thing this time.

  • I'm taking a newborn size outfit (most people find that even a quite large baby fits best in newborn at first).

It's a cotton footed sleeper (side snaps to avoid irritating the cord), and I'm bringing a footed fleece outerwear (this) and a cotton and knit hat. Blanket of course.

Allowing for layering, that should cover any weather in the 75-30 degree range.

  • We're in Seattle. It's always cold around Halloween, so I'm packing a long-sleeved something, socks, a hat and a blanket. I also have a warm and fuzzy outdoor outfit thingy... what are they called? Eh, anyway I'll just end up using the cutest outfit that I get from my shower, like I did last time, or the cutest outfit that I already have in my stash. I have plenty.

  • I've got two outfits already... one for a boy, one for a girl.

The boy outfit: 1 piece long-sleeve blue striped outfit (kind of like pjs) with socks & a beanie

The girl outift: 2 piece outift, long-sleeve grey polka dot top with leggings, also with socks (I've got a plain white beanie I'll probably bring too)

We'll have a blanket with us, which will be necessary if its cold when we're leaving the hospital.  I live in the Midwest where the average high is 65 and avg. low is mid-40s in October... those are two very different clothing needs!

  • Because I have no clue what the weather will be like either, I plan on doing one of those long sleeve gowns with elastic at the bottom. Carter's sells sets that have a gown, hat, bib, and socks. I figure that can fairly easily go warm or cool. Mine is a newborn size.

These would be an issue if you are having to hike it up to get the carseat harness on.  Just something that I remember was pointed out in other posts.

The one I bought actually converts from a gown back to pants just by changing the snaps, so I think I can do that for the carseat. Good thought, though! Thanks!

  • I am team green as well and was wondering if i need to bring two sizes in each of the genders.  Really, i was hoping to find something neutral, but so far, it has been a no go.
  • I suggest a cute zip up footed sleeper and you can add a blanket on top if it's chilly. I would not choose anything with pants since it might rub against the belly button area. I think it;'s more important to think about an outfit for when you take pics at the hospital, if you do this. The going-home outfit should just be about comfort for the baby. Have fun shopping!! :)

  • I am a team greener but I want a gender specific outfit to come home...I have given this job to my sister. Once our LO is here she will take care of it :) I was lucky enough to have that special job when my niece was born :)

  • I live in North Alabama so I'm expecting it to be cool outside at the end of Oct - beginning of Nov. (Due 10/31). I am bringing LO home in a newborn size carters onesie with matching pants and cardigan. It looks just like this set but the one I bought is pink, not purple. And mine has little flowers instead of polka dots.

  • With DS we brought our girl outfit and boy outfit which were 0-3 months. Our DS ended up being 9.5 pounds so he fit just fine in the 0-3 size. They were the same outfit, fleece pants with matching fleece jacket with a onesie underneath, one blue stripe and one pink stripe. We are in Wisconsin and LO's birthday will be on the Oct 7th so we'll probably buy two different versions, a warmer outfit and a cooler outfit and see what the weather looks like for when we go in for our c-section.

I don't know what to bring. I read an earlier post and second time moms had said that some babies don't like the way onsies pull on their umbilical cord stump and I had not even thought of that.

THis!!!! Get a kimona style top.  It makes diaper changes exremely easy as well as apposed to a onesis.

I would keep LO in something like this till the stump falls off.  I will have a formal going home outfit but have no idea what yet.  Probably some type of sleeper since it will be chilly outside.
