Your baby wearing habbits?

Where, when, and how often do you wear your babies? Is there any time that you prefer a different method, such as a stroller or car seat?

For example, I wear my baby at the grocery store, or anytime I need to walk around somewhere hands free, but so far I've been taking her in her car seat at restaurants. Sometimes I wear her around the house. I'm considering if it would be better to wear her at restaurants as well.

Re: Your baby wearing habbits?

  • I'm new at this, but here's my two cents. I use my wrap when I'm at home. It's comfy for LO while I get things done. I keep the sling in the diaper bag and use it when I'm out and about because it's simple to put on. We went out of town this past weekend and I also wore him in the sling when we went into retaurants. It was wonderful since he continued sleeping. I don't use the carseat anywhere but the car; slings are far more convenient and he likes it.

I also have a stroller that we just used this weekend. We walked up a trail to a waterfall; the stroller was cooler for him and I'm honestly kind of out of shape since being pregnant so I wasn't sure about wearing him for that far and steep. It's also a jogging stroller so I'll use it for that when he's a little older.

ETA: The pic in my siggy is him in the stoller that weekend. He loves the stroller too.

  • I only wear my daughter when I'm going to the store/grocery shopping and when I go on my morning walks (I have a Moby wrap). I've tried wearing her around the house, but she usually gets fussy after a few minutes.

I use the car seat for restaurants or I'll push her around in it if she's asleep when we get to the grocery, for example. We have a stroller, but have only used it twice. If my daughter isn't in her car seat or wrapped up, one of us is holding her. :)

It wouldn't hurt to have both a carrier and the car seat if you feel like you might need them.

  • I wear her when I do the laundry, vacuum, go grocery shopping, and when walking in cooler weather.

I use the stroller when I go clothes shopping or for walks when it's hot.  I always keep my Ergo in the basket when I need to park the stroller or for nursing.

At one month, I always just kept her in the carseat at restaurants, especially if she was still sleeping.   For me it was easier to do that than to fit in a booth while BW.  It's manageable, but not very comfortable for me.

When she was very little, I wore her to sleep, so mainly around the house and for walks.  Now that she is older, I wear her on the go instead of a stroller (like at the zoo, to go to the park, the pool, shopping, etc), for groceries, quick errands, etc.  She is very heavy, so I even use my sling just for quick in and out of a store (like picking up dry cleaning), it is so much easier on my back.  At home, I wear her when she is fussy and I don't have time to just sit there and play.

I only started wearing her at restaurants once she started eating.  She hates being worn when I'm sitting so it would be completely useless for me at a restaurant while eating.  I brought her carseat or stroller until we started putting her in a high chair around 5-6 months.

I mainly use my RS and Ergo now.  I can't manage to get her on my back with the woven, so I haven't been using that as much...I just ordered a babyhawk mei tai, hopefully it is easier with that, I find the ergo hangs too low and she gets frustrated.

ETA: and I also have two strollers and couldn't live without them.  We have a double jogging stroller, for jogging and biking with the two girls.  And I have a Bugaboo, which I love and have used a ton as well, especially for long walks.  I also have a standing board that attaches to it for my older child, so that is great.

  • At home: Woven wrap in a back carry (I've finally got it figured out!), maybe the Ergo if he is more "huggy" and wants to be in front.

Grocery store/errands: My ring sling. It's quick and easy, and I can push the shopping cart. I used to use my woven at the grocery store, but I can't do a back wrap in the parking lot yet, and he's too heavy for a front carry in my Ellaroo.

Restaurant: Usually we take the car seat/snap-n-go, so he can sit up near the table with us and nap if he wants.

Walking to the farmer's market- depends on the day- woven, ring sling, or Ergo. Walking long distances- Ergo.

At any given time at least one of my carriers is in the car, and another in the living room.

  • OP, I forgot to add... many babies do not like to be worn when mom (or dad, or whoever) isn't walking/moving. My kiddo is one of those, so wearing him while at a restaurant just doesn't work too well. As soon as I sit, he wants OUT.

I wear Parker when I'm doing things around the house, to get her to sleep at night, when out running errands, and while walking.  I only have her in the jogging stroller when we are running.  At restaurants I have her in the high chair.

OP, when my LO was 1 month I wore her all around the house but kept her in the car seat in the Snap n Go when out.  It was much easier for me to keep her in there when she was sleeping, which was most of the time.
