Allergen help!

DS2 who has been on a DF, GF and SF diet from 12 mo on had severe diarrhea last night, twice. Both times enough for me to have to change the bed. Now he gets an upset tummy once or twice a month usually from eating even the smallest amount of dairy or soy that he might have sneaked or DH inadvertently fed him but this was pretty bad. We haven't done any allergy testing, we avoided the ones that he had reactions to and avoided the gluten and wheat because DH has it pretty bad. I am thinking I am avoiding the inevitable here and he may never grow out of and instead develop more severe allergies at this rate. What do you think? Oh and DH's family on his mom's side is where all these food issues stem from his maternal grandfather had diverticulitis, colitis, Crohn's and who knows what else he had they hadn't diagnosed.

Re: Allergen help!

  • Are you already working with an allergist?  If your LO is having severe reactions I would talk to someone and look into testing, or maybe a GI specialist as well with the family history you mentioned.  I would rather know what you can and can't give him to eat and avoid making him so sick.  It may not be as bad as you think, and you might get a better idea of how to manage the issues you are currently dealing with.  GL!

  • We've made an appointment with Dr Sutton next month and yeah looks like a lot of investigation ahead of us.

  • I hope you are able to get some answers.  Dealing with food allergies and intolerances really sucks; both my mom and sister have severe food allergies, and I swear there isn't a single thing food and otherwise my mom isn't allergic to to some degree.
