Talk to me about your potty chair

I guess it's time to have one around so DS can see what it's all about. Has it made a difference to anyone's LOs what style they had? I don't have a problem with the cutesy ones, but our bathroom doesn't have a lot of space so I'm leaning towards a Bjorn style simple one. I'm curious if some kids preferred using one style over another, KWIM?

TIA!

Re: Talk to me about your potty chair

  • We have two.  The Safety First step/stool/ potty combo thing and a cheapie from Ikea ($3).  The ikea chair was our favorite.  The Safety First seat has nooks and crannies. And your kid then pees on the nooks and crannies.  YUCK.  The ikea potty isn't as easy to empty but for $3 whatever.  All DS wanted to use once he trained was the ikea potty. And now he's choosing to sit on the big potty without a potty ring/seat so the other potty was basically useless.

  • I'm really hoping to not have to do a potty chair.  We have ZERO space in the bathroom and I really don't like the idea of a potty outside the bathroom.  I thought some people just did a step stool and maybe a seat insert?

This is what I want to do when we are actively potty training. Just saw a soft closing one with a built in insert for little buns at Home Depot. DS can be a little sensitve with things, and I'm worried that sitting on the big potty might scare him away from it all together. Like with most things with him, I think we will have to ease into this :-)

  • I had the Baby Bjorn potty chair just in case my boys didn't take to the Baby Bjorn potty insert that I put on the toilet. It ended up being unused after 2 times--my kids just weren't interested in it. They have used the insert and have no problems even going on the toilet without it (although one kiddo does prefer it). One big thing I knew I wanted with the insert or potty chair was a really nice splash guard which both of those do have.
