FIL: I understand that the strap on DS carseat that we bought for you broke. Please allow me to attempt to fix it because your solution "I can just tie the strap together in the back and it should hold pretty tight. Besides, I'm jsut driving down the street" doesn't cut it for me. It it slipped off of the support then something is wrong and it will not save my son if some idiot decides to run a red light and slam your car with him in it. I like him alive, thank you.
MIL: THANK YOU! It has been a long 7 years coming but you gave me a very pleasant surprise when FIL and BIL suggested that the 10 year old, drop side crib that BIL rigged together to stand up in somewhat sturdy condition was safe for our new baby and YOU SAID HECK NO! You asked me if I would rather wait and get a newer, safer one when she actually needs it because we both agree that for the time at Grandmoms, she will be fine in the PNP for a decent amount of time. I could have hugged you. You have a history of disagreeing with me for the sake of disagreeing and I could not have loved this moment more.
DH: No! No! No!...your painting sucks. I will do the trim because I do not want our son's new room to look like it's been slapsticked together.
ME: Calm the heck down lady! You are on severe perfection rage lately and if someone steps out of line, you are liable to snap. Go get a pedicure!

And at first MIl insisted that my DS sleep in the dilapidated crib when I told her he was way too big for it...it turned out to be a money issue that was solved when I offered to buy him a toddler bed. He loved it and we were all happy.
