XP: 2nd u/s - bleeding in the u/s ?

(posted this on 1st tri too)

So I just got back from my 2nd u/s.  Saw baby's hb at 178 bpm.  He/She looked like a little gummy bear.  Afterwards I met with the dr and he informed me that I have some bleeding in my uterus and to expect some brown blood.  To call him if/when I start bleeding.

Then he just asked how my symptoms were and I said so I should EXPECT some blood? He said yes, brown.  And I said, but call you?  He said yes.  And then he said that we aren't all clear until we hear the hb in 4 weeks with the dopplar.

I have a history of cps and a blighted ovum so I don't know if it's really not that big of a deal or if he was just trying not to stress me out.  I'm taking it as it's not too big of a deal b/c knowing my dr he would have asked me to come back in next week for another u/s.

Anyone ever heard of this? I haven't had ANY spotting or bleeding since my lmp in June.

  • With my DS I had some brown bleeding around 6 weeks.  The doctor said it was old blood and not to worry about it.  Hopefully thats all it is,  He probably just wants to be sure when you call that the blood is brown and not red.

Thanks.  Just wish he explained where the blood was coming from.  Oh well...I'll be out of town all next week so I hope I don't have to call him then :/

  • I'm bleeding right now. I have been for over three weeks now. I ended up going to the E.R. because my doctor's office is of no help whatsoever. I have what's called a subchorionic hemorrhage. It's where a part of the placentae breaks apart from the rest and that's where the bleeding is coming from. The E.R. told me it's currently not a huge deal. It usually disappears on it's own and there is nothing you can do to prevent it or help get rid of it. It's basically a waiting game. I've done tons of googling since I found out about it and it seems like a lot of women have this and have healthy pregnancies. Ask your doctor about it and see if this is a possibility of where the bleeding will be coming from. It never hurts to ask questions.

Oh wow.  Yeah I was leaving the office and thought, why didn't I ask him where exactly it was coming from and what was causing it?  I was just sitting there kinda like duhhhhh.  I guess I was lost in the moment.

  • I also had a subchorionic hemorrhage and have been wiping brown blood everytime I use the restroom.  I did a lot of research (thinking I was for sure going to lose the baby because it would become detached. But it's pretty normal to have a healthy pregnancy afterwards.  H&H vibes your way.

  • I had the same thing happen at my last u/s. He could see a small bleed and told me to expect brown blood. Brown blood is old blood and it is nothing to be concerned about. It will seem like something is wrong, but there is nothing wrong.

  • It sounds like your doctor wasn't giving you the type of detail you wanted/needed, and that's something I can definitely relate to. My doctor keeps giving me obscure answers that dumbfound and confuse me to the point where I can't even figure out how to press him for more info. This is actually a trend I've noticed among male OBGYNs.  Maybe it's just me, but every male OBGYN I've had (I've been through quite a few) seems to leave out details. It's scary. For example, one time I had a colposcopy performed by a male OBGYN and I didn't even know that was the procedure I had until after I left the office and did some research on my own. My doctor is really, really nice but I'm wondering if I should switch to a female just because in my experience they seem to understand that we're most comfortable knowing as much as possible.
