Bleeding: I don?t think it was quite 6 weeks before it stopped. I had to go in weekly during those 6 weeks PP for BP checks, and for some reason I think the bleeding had stopped before the 6th week. Possibly TMI: I did pass a few rather large clots (I swear, one was as big as my TV remote, no exaggeration) during the PP weeks, which made me call my ob/gyn practice, but those clots were later attributed to me doing ?too much?. Dr?s told me to rest & not do so much, which is kind of hard with a newborn (and when you?re convinced no one can do your laundry or cook your meals as well as you can).
Exercise, I waited until the 3 month mark. Maybe excessive, but I wanted to make sure the BP issue was under control before I started (walking from one side of the room to another was enough to raise my BP while I had GIH). I tried to pick back up on the C25K program when I started again, but it seemed like I could really feel ?it? in my belly the first few times. Not sore, more like a pulling sensation maybe? It didn?t hurt. It seemed like I was super-winded during each C25K session. The 3rd day of the program I stopped it completely because of how tired & out of breath I felt, and I wasn?t going especially fast. Now I just walk on the treadmill when I can, and it?s a red-letter day for me when I can hit 3.6 MPH without feeling exhausted. I?ve been using the machines at the gym without any issue.
My bleeding lasted about four weeks, but was very light the last couple of weeks. My exercising was really long walks with the baby, I started that pretty much when she was a couple of weeks old.
a little over 6 weeks. My exercise was housework! I also did some breastfeeding and pumping with bottle-feeding early on and lost a lot of weight from that. For me the second c-section was much easier than the first. A lot less pain and I was able to handle things on my own by the middle of the second week.

Honestly, I had such stupid other complications from the c-section that I can barely remember how long I bled. I guess it was 6-8 weeks or so.. nothing unusual there, despite the mess the rest of me was.
For TMI disclosure, I was leaking from the incision site for just about that long as well and was practically on bedrest. Had to be checked daily for infection, etc. It was awful.
As for the waiting to exercise... yeah.. I'm still waiting to start that. But seriously, you were literally sawed in half a few weeks ago... give yourself a little break from the exercise routine, girl.

Yeah I know that I should take it easy. When I said exercise I meant doing some gentle yoga and long walks. I do not want to cause any complications for sure.
Thanks everyone for your answers. When I was discharged from the hospital the doctor told me for how long I should expect to bleed, but at that time I was so exhausted that I didn't remember that.

I have had 3 c-sections. Bleeding was longest with the third. With the first I bleed for less than 1 month. Heavy at first, but quickly became light. Felt well enough for light exercise after 4 weeks. Can't say I did a lot of exercise, but I probably could have. With this last c-section the doctor wanted me to wait for quite awhile before starting exercise to avoid scarring. I am 6 months out from the last c-sectino and I am ready to start exercising. Now, I am not saying that I am actually going to start. I am just saying that I could
I bled for 3-4 weeks but never heavy. My sister who had 3 c-sections always bled heavy, I guess I got lucky!
I was cleared to exercise at 6 weeks but I think I went once and that was it. I am not very motivated to exercise nor did I have time to do anything but walk (while pushing a stroller).

I should clarify: I don?t have a problem using the machines when I ACTUALLY go to the gym. I rejoined the gym before I returned to work. Since returning to work, I?m lucky if I go once a week. I?m out of the house 10 hrs a day between work & my commute time. By the time I get home, I?d rather snuggle with Baby SugarChick rather than running back out to the gym after dinner. Unless I?m getting paid to look good (not happening in the foreseeable future), going to the gym isn?t high on my list of priorities. I?m content walking Baby SugarChick in her stroller when I can, and using the treadmill at home & mixing it up with a yoga DVD for the time being J
I bled for 8 weeks, some days were not bad and very light but other days seemed like a full day period. I only started lightly exercising last week, though I was told I could go to the gym earlier... I just haven't been up to it and barely have the time.
Delivered 3 weeks and 2 days early via emergency c/s due to pre-e
I don't remember how long I bled but I'm guessing about 5 weeks. I know I had stopped bleeding by the time I had my 6 week checkup. I got the OK from my doc to start exercising at 6 weeks but I really didn't feel physically strong enough until around 8 weeks. Well, I probably could have done some walking around 6 weeks if we hadn't had 50 inches of snow on the ground.
Take it easy and wait for your doctor's OK. It is really easy to overdue it after a c-section and you won't realize it until it is too late.

I felt like I bled for a long time. At least 10-12 weeks.
As for exercise....just started that Monday! Not for any physical reasons, I just reached a point where I feel nasty and need to do something about it!

Re: C-section moms
You aren't going to like my answer. I bled for eight weeks. That's not what most people I asked said though. 4 - 6 weeks seemed to be the "norm".
And exercising? Hmmm... let me think about that... I'll let you know when it happens. Wait, does physical therapy count? Cause I do that every day

What is this exercise that you speak of? I have not heard of it before.

I hit the 8 week mark before I stopped bleeding. It felt like I was getting back all the periods I missed while pregnant!
I started walking with LO probably 4 weeks after, short walks, longer walks around 6 weeks?
