Hi ladies...
I'll try and make this short... apologies in advance for a potential novel. I'm 24 and our diagnosis is MFI. I just had my 3rd round of IVF (2 fresh, 1 frozen). The 2 fresh ended in m/c, one at 6w4d, the other was a chemical pregnancy. I transferred 3 thawed embryos on July 6.
My first beta 13dp3dt was 77. The second at 15dp3dt was 107. The third at 17dp3dt was 154.
They brought me in yesterday for an ultrasound (which obviously showed nothing) pretty much to prepare me for the possibility of an ectopic. I had my blood drawn yesterday morning at 19dp3dt and it had gone up 111% to 326... imagine our surprise.
The doctor told me if he had to rank the possibilities it would be (1) miscarrying normally. (2) I could go on and have a normal pregnancy and deliver. or (3) his least concern was ectopic at that point. He also said it could have been vanishing twin... which I'm not sure about since my first beta was low-ish.
Did anyone have slow to rise betas that eventually started doubling? Could this be a case of sluggish FET embryos?
My other question... is it safe for me to have all these ultrasounds so often? Tomorrow will be my third in 6 days, and I feel like if this pregnancy has a chance of being viable, all these ultrasounds cannot be good for it. Besides, even if I'm doubled again up into the 600s, they won't be able to see anything so it seems pointless.
Thank you for hearing me out!! Any insight is appreciated.
Hopefully I'll be back to stay.
Casey
Re: Intro, beta hell question...
5 REs + 3 surgical hysteroscopies for septum/lap + 3 failed IUIs
IVF w/ICSI/AH & acu = BFP!, unexplained spontaneous m/c @ 8w2d (our little girl),
FET w/acu = BFP!, B/G twins!, lost MP @19w, dx w/funneling cervix @20w,
twins nearly lost to IC @21w, saved by rescue cerclage, 17P & 16w of bedrest
Our twins born @36w4d via CS when A came foot first
Thankful for every day
Olive, what is going on with you? How was your ultrasound? In my lurking you stuck out to me with your situation (as well as the mini schnauzer in your sig... I have one too!)
Thank you to those who replied! I know this could go either way. Positivity is key, I guess.
I'm just still in limbo. After the slow rising betas (in my siggy), I had an u/s at 6w3d. We saw a heartbeat, RE estimated it to be around 100, and baby was measuring 4-5 days behind. Honestly, I'm not feeling very hopeful. Or maybe it's that I'm too scared to get my hopes up. I go for another u/s tomorrow where I will be 7w3d, so we shall see. Thanks for asking, and good luck to you!
P.S. Your pup is so cute!
I'm sorry you're in beta hell. I have been there and I know it's a difficult and frustrating place to be.
I had a probable ectopic about 2 years ago. My initial beta was around 80's around 14dpiui and then the next few ones didn't double. They weren't even close to doubling. Then my hcg skyrocketed and then plateaued. They did an u/s and even though my hcg was around 2000, which was low for being 6 weeks or so pg, they didn't see a gestational sac in the uterus. In fact, they never saw a sac anywhere. RE said that when your beta starts out low and has difficulty doubling and then plateaus, that's often indicative of an ectopic.
But my cycle that time was an IUI, so we didn't have frozen embryo issue. I don't think you're out of the woods but be prepared that it could not end well. And remember doubling time can take 48-72 hours. And generally you can't even see a sac 'til your hcg is at least 1000-2000. GL and hoping you have a good outcome!
