  • I will add mine here, I know I am not on that original thread, since I don't really post much here.

First baby.....4 IUI's....finally got pregnant with  Femara and a trigger shot (did the IUI 36 hours after the shot)

2nd Baby....MUCH HARDER....15 total tries over 2.5 years.  Tried Femara, Clomid, injections....everything!  Got pregnant 2 times that both failed.  On our last ditch effort, refused all meds, except for the trigger, and here we are about to deliver in a week or two.

Took us 6 tries - unmedicated IUIs.  Had a chemical pregnancy on cycle 3.  Started to despair around cycle 4 (I am now 36 after all) and met with an infertility specialist who basically said to keep trying for several more months before adding intervention.  Success on the 6th cycle - due in September.  It's certainly a very hard process, but it will likely work for you in the end.
  • Our story -

My wife:  4 failed ICI's, 7 failed, unmedicated IUI's - she decided she couldn't take it anymore and I started trying.

Me: 5 failed cycles (with back-to-back inseminations - 2 of which were clomid (50) cycles).  6th clomid (100) back-to-back cycle worked.

In total we tried for 1.5 years.  After my 5th cycle we decided to quit indefinitely.  My sister bought us 2 vials for my birthday, which became try #6 (in desperation since there was nothing else she could do and I was really down i.e. couldn't stop crying, after trying for so long) and it finally worked.   It is hard, but chances are it will work eventually.  There is a wide range on this board.  One woman got pregnant with her first IUI and then the bulk of us fall somewhere in-between from a few months to a few years but, sadly, there are stories of it never working.  Good luck.  It is the hardest thing we have ever done - by far.  But it is worth it, if/when it works.

It takes  about 3-6 tries to have a successful IUI.  According to their studies.  It took us a year to get pregnant - We did 4 IUI both unmedicated and medicated  switched RE's because our first one was a quack ( we have come to find out) an then did one with our New RE ( he is amazing) and it did not work so down on our luck and running out of money ( we are older too so it was tough ) we found a IVF clinical trial  and we just had our Twins on JULY 13th.

It is a topsy turvey roller coaster  the fertility conundrum. I think its a mad science as every person and couples experience is so different. What  worked for us may not work for others and what wokred for our friends may not work for us and DID not work for us...  Its something we want so SO SO bad and its just at our fingertips but sometimes it takes a while to grasp...

Just be good to yourselves and  kind and just know its all a process and any time line you have should be tossed out the window- It will happen when its right ( i hated hearing that ) but really It did happen when it was right !!!

  • 5 here, including 2 early miscarriages. We were with an RE and heavily monitored, started with clomid and moved to injectibles.
