? For those who rented hospital pumps....

I got a sterile medela bundle with the shields and tube thing and bottles and what not. When I turn it back in, is that mine to keep or do I turn the machine in and all that stuff? I could call the hospital but I'm tired of getting the run around today. TIA

The shields and stuff should be yours to keep. I doubt the hospital reuses them, ours certainly didn't. You can use them with most other pumps of the same brand if you are continuing to pump at home.

  • They charged me for the starter kit and it was mine to keep.

I only turned in the Medela Pump. They plugged it in to make sure it worked and that was it. It was just the pump with the cord attached in the carrying case.

  • My hospital is a MTF and they don't charge for renting or the kit but like PP said I doubt they reuse them, but maybe they send the parts back and get some sort of discount from medela or something idk. I will find out for sure before I return it.

  • You keep them, that is one of the things that makes it a hospital pump-it provides complete sanitation since all of the "contaminated" parts aren't reused. BTW, if one little part breaks (or your dishwasher melts it as in my case) you can buy just that part instead of a whole kit from bosom buddies.
