Assistant at OBs office annoys me so much

I almost hate having to call the doctor. The one assistant that answers the phones always sounds so condescending. I understand that I am concerned and I understand I have anxiety about the pregnancy and I ask a lot of questions. However, just because she has been working in the office for years and has probably heard these questions a bunch of times doesn't mean that she should act annoyed or put out when I call with questions. The doctor is always telling me that if I think of something after the appointment or if I have any concerns I should call. The problem is that I don't feel comfortable calling. Arg.

  • Next appointment after your OB says you should call if you think of something I would say ".... ya I would but I always feel like such an imposition when I call and talk your assistant"  He should know she is like that.

Either that or just don't give a rats a$$ what she thinks.  Your fees pay her salary, she works for you.

  • I have been having problems with the front desk girls. They are so rude and stuck up.

  • Tell your doctor how she makes you feel. I'm sure you're not the only person to feel this way with her. You need to feel comfortable calling.

  • It must be that way with a lot of doctors offices unfortunately because the front desk girls are pretty snotty at my office too except for a new girl who is super nice (hopefully she stays nice!)

  • I called my nurse out on it. I started with "i'm sorry for calling so much" and went on about how nervous I am and how it seems like talking to me is such a hassle for her. She said "oh, no, you're no bother" (though everytime I'd call she'd seem annoyed). Well after I made it clear that I could tell she was annoyed each time I called, now she is just as sweet as can be.
  • Talk to the Dr. or ask to speak with the office manager about how you feel.
  • Wow, it seems like most of them are like this.

I've rarely encountered nice admin staff at a doctor's office. My dentist's staff is the worst, to the point where I am changing dentists.

  • Yeah I'd tell the dr next time he suggests you call that you don't get the warmest reception from the staff.  I know that's annoying.  One reason I love my drs office so much is that everyone there is always pleasant and friendly.

  • Same problem with the front desk staff.  With every (EVERY) question comes a long loud sigh and then then a short one word answer.  I have tried the "So sorry to bother you" approach but without any changes. But if I need something answered I just plow through and sometimes do a preemptive sigh before they do. :)

  • well i would def tell the OB...yeah everytime i call with a question person X sounds like i am putting her out to get an answer. I bet that is not the person he wants representing his office. i bet he would nip that issue right in the rear!
