Parenting after 35

How can my employee's be so young/stupid?

My dufus employee just asked to leave early a day in August because it's her Mom's birthday. Dufus: "It's a big birthday, she going to be old" Me: "Really, how old will she be?" Dufus: "42"
I am speechless. One that she thinks 42 is old and two, that I'm nearly old enough to be Dufus's mom. Sigh...

  • Since when is 42 a "big" birthday? "Oh, she's turning the big four-two!" I've neer seen a card, banner or invitations especially for a 42nd birthday. What is this girl, like, 9? This whole thing just makes me feel stabby.

  • So, you denied that leave request, right?

When did 42 become a ?big? birthday? 21..30?40?50?you get the idea. 42? Not hating on 42, I?m just curious why it?s a ?big? birthday, specifically because her mom is going to be ?old?. And why is 42 old?

I guess one way to look at it: you look too young to be what she considers ?old?, so in a lame attempt to bond with you (which would possibly make you want to give her off) she thought she?d make a dumb joke about her mom being ?old?.

  • I would let her off on one condition, that she calls her mother in front of you and tells HER that since she is now 42, she is old and she wants time off from work so that she can spend one of her mother's last birthdays with her.  Because, you know at 42, we don't have many left.

Thank GOD I work in a profession where no one is young enough to be my child yet.

    I turn 42 in September.

  • I'm 44.  At my 25th HS class reunion last summer, I was the only one with a baby.  Most of my friends are grandparents already.   And their grandkids are older than Charles.

Yeah, we generally start early in rural Iowa.  My friend was a teenaged mom and so was her kid.  She was a grandma at 32.

  • That's so not funny.  LOL! Maybe she had a rough life and never thought she'd make it to 42. That sounds like something my kids would say.  They think anything over 30 is old!
  • That hurts...Even though I must admit that when I was in my early 20s I though 40+something was old-ish.

I never though that 42 is a special B-Day though. LOL:)

  • 42 *is* special, but only if the mom is totally awesome.

42 is the Answer to life, the universe, and everything.  If Dufus does not know this, request DENIED!

  • Maybe 42 is special because it is 2 x 21???

  • "stabby"!! BAHHAHAHA   I die!!   (and agree!)
  • I will be 42 in October. I actually do feel old now. For the last couple of years I have been busy getting pregnant and taking care of a newborn and a preschooler, so I didn't really notice the big 40, Now it has finally hit me!
