Postpartum Depression

update: Need some major help/advice/encouragement

Just an update- I saw my therapist today and we talked to my Dr and Pedi and it seems zoloft is the way to go. For anyone who takes it, what time of day/night do you take it? My peak anxiety time is early morning hours (5am or so) if that matters. Here's hoping for some relief!

Re: update: Need some major help/advice/encouragement

  • I always took it at night, but I always took all my meds at night.  Zoloft isn't really one that it matters the time you take it (from what I remember, it's been awhile). The important thing is it getting into your system.  It won't work right away.  It's not like Xanax or Ativan where the effects are noticeable in less than an hour.  It's going to take a week or two.

One thing I would like to pass on from my experience with all this is that it can take a few times to find the med combo for you.  It is important to stick with it and see what works.  Don't do one med and say forget it if it doesn't do what you want it to do.  If you have ANY concerns, that's what the doctor is for.  You need to talk to them and work out a better option.

    Good luck!

Edited: I think you take it in the morning.  I forgot that was one that could mess with your sleep.  I wasn't sleeping anyway, so I take a med for that.  It's been years since I took that one.  I was on it before #3.

  • i had ppd after the birth of my first child (she is now 4 yrs. old)..I took zoloft at night right before bed. it helped immensely. it also took about 3 weeks to kick in and do its job. I was on for about 1 yr. and a half and then went to the doctors to slowly wheen off of it. Good luck to you! email if you have any questions!
